1. Sunscreen Obsessive

Hockley knows how important sunscreen is for both health and appearance. "I always wear sunscreen now," she says. "I damaged my skin a lot in my youth by surfing and lazing about in the sun – probably like most of our generation. So, now it is about trying to reverse the damage! I use SPF everyday on my face, chest, hands, body – everywhere. I always carry it in my bag. I've noticed a big difference in my skin the last few years. Life catches up with you that's for sure! My skin is always so dry – that is my major battle. I spend a lot of time and money looking after it, from treatments like lasers, needling and hydra facials to really good quality skincare, which is why I love esmi. It's made from quality ingredients and [has] different products that suit everyone."
2. Walking Every Day
For Hockley, exercise is the ultimate expression of self-love. “The last few years I have run myself ragged. But what I always make time for is exercise, that is my self-care,” she says. "My dog Delilah is the best Winfrey but man, she's got some energy! She is an Aussie Shepherd and we have to clock some serious kilometers every day, so that has been great for me. It is my priority next year to look after myself a little better because it is a critical part of the success recipe."
3. Hard Work and Sacrifice
Hockley says anyone who wants to succeed has to be prepared to put the work in. "I guess I never really look at my life and say ‘Oh look, you're successful!’ because I am always working so hard to better myself or my work and trying to create a life I am happy with,” she says. “For nearly two years I worked full time in a hospital emergency radiology department, all hours of the day and night, whilst doing the podcast around that. Success in anything doesn't come easily. It is about passion, hard work, commitment and consistency!"
4. Food Is Life
Hockley’s struggles with eating disorders in the past have given her a new appreciation for her health. "Food is life!! I am strong, fit and healthy and I eat whatever I want, in moderation, because life is about balance,” she says. “I like what my body can do. It is so good for my mental health, it gives me energy and I don't feel myself if I haven't at least gone outdoors for a walk... I'm older, curvier, stronger, whatever you want to call it. And I'm happier than ever. I wish I had someone to tell me these things when I was a teenager."
5. Relationship Non-Negotiables
Hockley spoke about what she expects from a relationship moving forward. “I am definitely looking for a relationship, I am well and truly ready, but having said that, I am so comfortable on my own – so I don’t feel the need to just ‘settle’ for anything,” she said in 2020. “Maybe because I have been single for nearly 8 years, I’m comfortable in my own skin and in my own company. I know a lot of people do settle because they are scared to be on their own and are desperate for a relationship, but I would rather be alone than be with someone I know isn’t right. But hot damn I am ready to do life with someone!”
