Maggie Steffens is feeling patriotic in her workout gear. In a new social media post the Olympic water polo star shows off her team spirit and her fit figure in America themed exercise clothes. “USA all the way,” she captioned the Instagram photo. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.
1. Fitness Is a Lifestyle
Maggie has an all-encompassing approach to exercise. “I think it is important to remember that fitness is a lifestyle. It is not something you can pick and choose to do one morning or one day of the week. In order to achieve ultimate fitness and maintain it, it has to be something you live by,” she explained to UCan.
2. Strength Training and Swimming
Maggie spends a lot of time strength training. “Our team lifts at the gym for two hours at a time, 3 -4 times a week. We’re in the pool 6-7 hours a day, 6 days a week. Our heavy training schedule also means you have to focus on recovery,” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:
- Develop strong bones
- Manage your weight
- Enhance your quality of life
- Manage chronic conditions
- Sharpen your thinking skills
3. Hydration
Maggie makes sure to drink lots of water. “I always have my water bottle with me for hydration,” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.
4. Sleep
