Shakira is known for her incredible dance moves and intricate choreography. This singer is perhaps best known for her ability to belly dance. “I have such a respect and fascination for dance,” she has said in the past. “I can be light as air or stay grounded. Dance is really another universe.”

She Pushes Herself on the Treadmill

One of the exercises that Shakira does with her trainer, Anna Kaiser, involves using a treadmill. But, it’s not the typical treadmill workout. Kaiser told POPSugar that the singer’s treadmill workout is, “Alternating between strength and cardio intervals, but you’re doing it to music, and you’re working on all planes of motion — you’re shuffling sideways, you’re skipping, you’re leaping, you’re running backwards for the cardio portion. Then you stop and do the strength portion, but it’s all done on the treadmill!”

She Does Interval Training

Every Monday, Shakira does interval training with a bit of dance mixed in. Her trainer, Anna Kaiser, revealed that the singer did a lot of interval training for her SuperBowl Halftime Show performance. “The focus of this workout is cardio endurance, I want her to push through with few breaks for the entire 90 minutes,” Kaiser told Vogue. “She will make some of the movements her own, adding flair with her hips. Even though it’s super intense, she’s still having fun!”

She Mixes Up Her Workouts

Shakira and her trainer, Anna Kaiser, like to mix up her workouts. “We alternate between strength and cardio intervals. Some days we do just cardio and then strength and some days we start with strength and then do cardio, we like to mix it up,” Kaiser said to E! News. “I want to make sure that she is improving her endurance so that she can go into a two-hour show and also has the strength and stamina to make it through a five-month tour. It’s about making sure she gets a little bit of everything.”

She Uses A Heart Rate Monitor

Shakira’s workouts are based around a heart rate monitor. Her trainer, Anna Kaiser, told E! News that she uses a heart rate monitor in the singer’s workouts to build consistency. “A heart rate monitor is very important because every day is different. Sometimes you may have a ton of energy and other days you may not, but you can hold yourself accountable for knowing how hard you’re working by having a very specific goal to work toward,” said Kaiser.

She’s on A Food-Combining Diet

Shakira reportedly eats a pretty healthy diet, and. Her trainer, Anna Kaiser, also designed the singer’s diet. “I have her on a very digestible diet with food-combining,” she said to POPSugar. “You don’t want to combine a protein and a complex carbohydrate. Instead, you’d want just protein and vegetables or complex carbohydrates and vegetables. Combining protein with complex carbohydrates [in one meal] may make you feel tired.” Kaiser said that the singer eats protein pancakes, fruit by itself, dairy by itself.

She Eats Smaller Meals

In addition to her clean, food-combining diet, Shakira’s trainer, Anna Kaiser, told POPSugar that the singer eats smaller meals throughout her day. “If you’re eating smaller meals and combining food the right way, [your digestion] burns the food much more effectively and feeds your body so that you’re actively using those calories, and you’re not getting so tired that you have to rest or take time out of your day. You’re able to continue throughout your day with lots of energy.”
