She Works Out Every Day
Disha prioritizes exercise, never skipping a day. "I work out everyday and my routine usually involves cardio in the mornings, like dancing, kick boxing or gymnastics, and weight training in the evenings," she told Vogue India. "The key is to do enough and to do it often enough. For health, doctors should 'prescribe' at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise or 15 minutes of intense exercise a day," says Harvard Health.
She Hydrates
According to Disha, hydration is key. She told Vogue that her water bottle "is the most important part of any workout." "The daily four-to-six cup rule is for generally healthy people. It's possible to take in too much water if you have certain health conditions, such as thyroid disease or kidney, liver, or heart problems; or if you're taking medications that make you retain water, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opiate pain medications, and some antidepressants," says Harvard Health.
Weight Training Is Key
Disha told Vogue that the biggest misconception "is that women working out involves cardio, not weight training," she told Vogue. "But we all work out and do heavy weights; I come across so many girls in the gym training really hard. At the end of the day, it isn't about the gender, but about working on your body and becoming your fittest self."
Her Diet Focuses on Protein and Carbs
Disha "supplements" her exercise regimen with a "protein-carbs" diet, she told Vogue. "I have fallen into this bad habit where I don't eat anything in the mornings before working out, because I feel very full while exercising if I do. But, it is definitely advisable to cram in a small meal before a work out, consisting of some protein, like eggs. After exercising, it is good to add protein again, either through chicken, eggs or paneer."
She Lives for Cheat Days
Disha celebrates her success by treating herself to cheat days. "I absolutely love them; in fact, I wait for cheat days the whole week. Depending on the diet I am following and my shoot schedule, I sit down once a week and eat everything I can fit into my stomach," she confessed to Vogue.
She Kickboxes
Disha also kickboxes. She recently shared an Instagram video showing off her kick-butt skills, and her followers were impressed to say the least. Or try regular boxing. "There's no proof that fitness boxing is superior to any other types of exercise, but it does have many health benefits. One is strength," says Harvard Health. "You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs," says physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital.
