Intermittent Fasting

The Morning Show star has been known to do intermittent fasting. "I do intermittent fasting, so there's no food in the morning. I noticed a big difference in going without solid food for 16 hours," she told the U.K. outlet Radio Times. Chris Lee, a NASM-Certified Fitness Coach, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, UCLA B.S. Biology & Creator of 9-minute health & fitness program HAU 2 FIT explains, "We maintain a caloric deficit for a period of time by ingesting foods dense in nutrients that our body needs while reducing the total amount of calories on a daily basis, we can reduce fat our body stores while increasing caloric fat burn. Regardless of what approach we take, e.g., low carb, keto, plant-based, omnivore, etc., that means minimizing the amount of overly processed foods full of sugar, sweeteners and preservatives while maximizing the amount of fiber-rich, whole plant-based foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and legumes. That means if we cut an average of just 500 calories from processed foods and sugary snacks from our daily intake for a week, we can painlessly lose a pound of fat per week. A simple way to make this easier is achieving this while intermittent fasting, e.g., to not eat before 10am or after 8pm (the moderate 10-14 method)."

Eats Whole Foods

One of Aniston's trainers, Leyon Azubuike, co-owner of Gloveworx, told Women's Health that he has the A-lister eat whole foods and healthy fats. "I love avocados, coconut oil, salmon, fish oil… anything that's a good form of fat is great," he said. For carbs and protein, Leyon added it's different for everyone based on their lifestyle. "For me, I stick to 1.7 grams of carbs and 2 grams of protein per my kilo weight to support muscle-building." Shannon Henry, a registered dietician with EZCare Clinic says, "Whole foods can help you lose weight because they contain fewer calories than processed food. They also lower your blood sugar levels, improve your digestion, and reduce muscle tenderness. Whole foods such as vegetables (kale, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots), fruits (apples, bananas, blueberries, oranges), whole grains, nuts, and legumes are essential for good health."

Yoga

Celebrity yoga instructor Mandy Ingber told ABC News in 2014 how the Friends star stays in shape with yoga combined with cardio. "We up the cardio a little bit, if she's looking to sort of trim down," she said. "So we add a little more cardio to the yoga, but also what she puts into her body is essential. That really is 80 percent of it … it's not a big deal if you have a bite of this or that if you are mostly eating well." Matt Gehlbach, a certified ISSA and NASM personal trainer with Garagegymfit.org says, "If you're looking for a workout that will help you to get fit and toned, yoga is a great option. There are many different types of yoga, so you can find one that's right for your fitness level and goals. If you're new to yoga, start with a beginner's class to learn the basic poses and techniques. There are a few different types of yoga that can help you to get fit and toned. One type is power yoga, which is a more vigorous form of yoga that helps to build strength and stamina, and burns calories. Another type is Ashtanga yoga, which is a more challenging form of yoga that can help to improve your flexibility. Yoga is a fantastic way to get fit and in shape as it requires the use of all muscle groups through the various poses and flows."

Meditation

Aniston recently told People how much she enjoys meditation. "For me, I meditate every day — and sitting quietly, writing," she says. "That's enough. And any kind of yoga practice is my meditation. I just have faith in a bigger picture, I guess. And I believe in humanity, even though there's so much to discourage us from believing in it — but I do." Gehlbach says, "Meditation is important because it allows us to connect with our Inner selves. When we meditate, we are able to silence the chatter of our minds and connect with our innermost thoughts and feelings. This can be incredibly calming and grounding, and can help us to become more aware of our own thoughts and emotions. Meditation can also help us to develop a sense of focus and concentration, which can be useful in all aspects of life. And finally, meditation can help us to find peace within ourselves, even in the midst of chaos."

Switches Up Her Workout Routine

Aniston does everything from boxing to cardio and Shane Mikesky, a Performance Coach at Future explains, "By adding variety into a workout program, it allows us to touch on various areas related to fitness. That may be related to mobility, strength, hypertrophy, aerobic endurance, anaerobic conditioning, stability, speed, power development, etc. By adding variety and not only sticking to one specific modality allows our bodies to perform in the best ways possible. However, adding too much variety can be detrimental since too much does not allow our body to adapt to the training. That's why when strength coaches and personal trainers design programs, they are typically set up in micro-cycles to develop one of the areas mentioned previously, while focusing on maintaining the other areas. After that micro-cycle, the focus of the workouts can change to develop other areas of fitness."
