She Doesn't Crash Diet Anymore
There was a time when Alessandra would go to extreme means to slim down, but she doesn't do that anymore. "After having Anja I only had three months to lose all the weight [before doing the 2008 Victoria's Secret show] and I was on this 1,200-calorie-a-day meal-delivery service that I hated. I couldn't do that again," she told The Edit. In general, show prep "is so stressful…there's so much pressure on us all—not just in terms of shape—and the energy gets sucked out of you, so my favorite thing to do afterwards is dance all night long."
She Does Pilates
Alessandra is incredibly athletic and loves to exercise. One of her go-to workouts? Pilates. "It's important to break a sweat every day, and I love the way Pilates makes me feel long and lean," she told Glamour.
She Also Does Yoga
Alessandra can also be found at her local yoga studio. "I love to do yoga as it centers me and also at the same time keeps me in shape," she told FOX News. "Since there is a lot to do around the house sometimes I don't have much time to work out, in which case I try to do some stretching and hold a plank for five to 10 minutes."
She's Always Moving
"In my family, no one ever worked out. It wasn't until I did my first Victoria's Secret show that I started exercising…now that it's a healthy, normal part of my daily routine," she told The Edit. She also shares workout clips on Instagram of her intense but doable strength training workouts, involving lifting small weights, interval training, and core exercises. And, even when she isn't at the gym, she blasts calories with her family. "We love going to the beach, hanging in Malibu and playing volleyball… We like going rollerblading and biking, all kinds of things!" she added to People.
She Has Become More Confident
Alessandra's relationship to her body has evolved over the years. "I think I've developed an inner confidence," she recently told Harper's Bazaar. "I didn't expect modeling to last, but here I am still doing it and loving it. So, that has made me feel that I can embrace my look at every stage of my life."
She Doesn't Diet, But Doesn't Binge Either
"Whenever I start to diet, everything goes downhill," she told The Edit. "So if I want a little bite of dark chocolate on a plane or a cocktail with friends on the weekend, I'll have it. In fact, I'll drink a glass of red wine with dinner most nights, and two or three times a week I'll have a cup of tea and a cupcake with Anja, who's as obsessed with red velvet as I am." However, she also tries to avoid binge eating, which she started doing when she began making her own money at 15. "I'd go to the supermarket and fill my bag with cookies, ice cream and yogurt: everything sweet you can imagine. And there were times when I would eat a whole packet of cookies. But then I taught myself not to do that, basically by reminding myself how horrible it felt the last time. Oh, and of course I would lose my job, so that was another incentive."
