Her Diet Is Healthy
Even when she is on tour, Maren maintains a healthy diet. She starts the morning with three egg whites and spinach cooked in olive oil, and wheat toast. For lunch, she eats salad with protein. However, she waits until after her shows to consume dinner, usually leaving the stage starving. "When I'm out there, I make it count. I know I'll feel awful if I don't eat right after burning all those calories in the show," she told Women's Health. For dinner, she will eat another salad, maybe skinless chicken over spinach with lemon vinaigrette.
She Exercises
Maren attributes her toned figure to exercise sessions with Nashville based trainer Erin Oprea. She does a lot of their workouts virtually and also uses Erin's Pretty Little Muscles app. Her workouts usually involve jump roping followed by bodyweight resistance strength training, doing exercises like front and side planks, pushups, squats, lunges, and a combo of the latter two.
"Squat lunges are the worst," she confessed. "They're so hard because that's the area I need it most—my thighs and butt." She then moves to the BOSU ball and does crunches and core work, followed by weight lifting with free weights.
She Is Inspired By Lara Croft
Initially, Maren told her trainer she wanted dto "look like Tomb Raider." She even keeps a photo of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft on her phone. "This is what I have to look at every time I unlock it—if I'm at a bar, or eating a french fry. So that's motivating," she said.
She Was Comfortable with Her Body After Having a Baby
Oprea told Us Weekly that Maren was comfortable with her body after welcoming her first baby and didn't rush into losing the weight. "She doesn't have this, 'I want to bounce back kind of mentality,' which I freaking love, after having a baby," Oprea said. "She has this, 'I want to feel good, but I still want to love life.' And I think it's cool. My goal for her [is] slow and steady, enjoy the journey."
She Does Therapy
After welcoming her son, Maren did battle postpartum depression, which her husband, Ryan Hurd, helped diagnose. "I do check-ins all the time [with] therapy, which I've done for years, and my husband was a huge help diagnosing that too," she told People. "Sometimes it's just someone really close to you saying, 'Are you OK?' It's so simple, but it kind of snaps you out of whatever fog you're in that you think is normal, but isn't."
