1

She Uses Weights

Dragoi uses heavy weights for her resistance training exercises. "In strength training, you add resistance to a particular movement to overload your muscles, which makes them work harder and become stronger," says strength and athletic trainer Tom Iannetta, ATC, CSCS.Β  "As we age, we lose muscle mass, which decreases metabolism, so establishing a strength program will not only increase muscles, it will boost metabolism."Β

She's a Swimmer

Dragoi isβ€”of courseβ€”an accomplished competitive swimmer. "Individuals of various ages, body weights, and health conditions can experience health benefits from swimming," says the Cleveland Clinic. "Because performing exercise in water can decrease the impact of body weight on your joints, swimming can be an ideal form of exercise for achieving many goals, ranging from heart health, weight loss, pain management and arthritis management."

3

Balanced Diet

Dragoi enjoys indulging in delicious food when she travels, especially local bread. Bread such as sourdough offers many health benefits, experts say. "The fermentation process and higher fiber content makes sourdough a useful option for those with blood sugar management issues," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "This is because, unlike many commercially produced breads, sourdough has less of an impact on blood sugar levels."

Fresh Fruit

Dragoi loves fresh fruit, especially raspberries. "Raspberries are also full of antioxidants and nutrients called polyphenols that decrease oxidative damage," says the Cleveland Clinic. "Like their 'blue' berry cousin, they're high in fiber to aid in digestion, blood glucose control and weight loss."

5

She Practices Gratitude

Dragoi is determined to change people's perceptions of what it means to be an athlete but also a model. "I am grateful for all the people I have in my life that make me happy and support me," she says. "And I am thankful that I now can have a say and influence the stereotypes and stigmas in the pageant and modeling world. This accomplishment means a better version of myself as I learn many new things from every pageant, every girl, every different culture, and lastly a new experience"
