She Boxes
In her most recent interview about her health, wellness, and diet secrets, Ciara revealed that she like to fight. "I like boxing when I'm trying to figure things out," she told Women's Health in November 2022. "That's a part of [my] 'therapy'—exercise." Fitness boxing offers other health benefits, both mental and physical, "because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's hospital tells Harvard Health."You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs."
She Does Special Ab Work
"I've accepted that my body will never be what it used to be," Ciara, mother-of-three, tells the publication. "I have diastasis recti, which is when your ab muscles split after birth," she says. "When I learned this, it was game-changing because you can train wrong for your abs. I had to educate myself on that and learn to retrain my abs."
She Works Out 5 Times a Week Doing Plyometrics, Weights, and Cardio
Ciara works with a trainer, usually five days a week. "When I train, it's a combination of plyometric workouts mixed with weights and cardio as well, because I dance. The cardio conditioning is really important for me, especially being here in Denver," she says. "It's another beast, with the altitude."
She Cycles
On the other days, Ciara rides her Peloton. "I love Ally Love. She's my favorite." The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, both indoor and out, is a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.
Her Diet Is All About "Balance"
"It's really about balance," Ciara says about her diet. She usually starts her day with eggs with fruit, a small cup of ice-cold decaf coffee or a frappé. For a mid-morning snack, she will grab a handful of almonds and cashews. For lunch, she likes to eat grilled chicken, broccoli, and a sweet potato. After another small snack, for dinner she will have veggies with seafood.
She Hydrates
Ciara drinks a gallon of water a day for hydration. "That's kind of my flow," she says. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.
She Gives Herself "Grace"
"I've really worked on committing to working out and eating as a lifestyle," Ciara says about not being too hard on herself with her diet and fitness. "And then I have moments where I give myself grace. I haven't worked out this week, because I've been traveling up and down, taking the kids to school, doing interviews. It's been so much going on that I'm like, Let's not stress. But tomorrow, we're back in, we're back outside, and we're back in the gym."
