1

She Limits Sugar

Rosenthal wisely limits sugar in her diet. "What we've discovered in the last couple of years is that sugar is keeping us overweight," says registered dietitian Brooke Alpert. "It's also a leading cause of heart disease; it negatively affects skin, and it leads to premature aging."

Rosenthal enjoys a healthy breakfast of avocado and eggs. "Avocados are high in fat with 60 percent of this being monounsaturated fats, which research suggests helps to protect against heart disease and lower blood pressure," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin. "They are also an excellent source of potassium, folate and fiber, all of which benefit the heart and cardiovascular system."

3

She Walks Her Dog

Rosenthal loves spending time with her beloved pup, combining the health benefits of walking with those of interacting with animals. "Animals support our physical, mental and emotional well-being," says clinical geropsychologist and neuropsychologist Dr. Nancy A. Pachana. "Having a pet reduces social isolation for older adults across settings and across varying levels of health and cognitive decline."

4

Goat Cheese

Rosenthal loves goat cheese, especially with ham and tomato. "I consider good goat cheese, great bread and fine wine about the best culinary combination the planet has ever devised," says David Katz, MD, director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center. "This is not a health food! But then again, pleasure is good for health, and as an occasional treat for those who love it as we do, goat cheese is very pleasurable stuff."

Rosenthal enjoys tea throughout the day, which is known to be heart-healthy. "There's a lot of literature out there on tea and heart health," says Anna Ardine, clinical nutrition manager at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "This is a health effect for which there is the strongest evidence."
