Lavigne opened up about her career to The Sun. She says that she's always had a strong work ethic, even when she was a teenager. "The minute I left, I ate pizza every day, stayed up all night and partied my ass off. I wasn't out of control or into drugs and I had a good work ethic and was well disciplined and did everything I needed to do — that balance was there. I was like a normal teenager away from their parents for the first time. It was great. It was like when people first go to college. Well, I didn't go to college, I moved on to a tour bus with a bunch of guys."

Lavigne shared some of her skincare secrets to The Strategist. She says that she makes sure to exfoliate her skin, and names the one from Dermalogica as a favorite. "This exfoliator is from a safe, clean brand that I overall like. I've used their exfoliator on and off for a while, but for the past year, I've been using it every day because there aren't a lot of harsh chemicals in it and it makes my skin feel really smooth. A lot of other exfoliators are harsh or feel grainy and can hurt a little. This one's gentle and has natural ingredients, so it definitely feels clean."

Lavigne is open about her struggles with Lyme Disease, which left her unable to work for two years. She raised awareness about this in an interview with Billboard. "It's a bug — a spirochete — so you take these antibiotics, and they start killing it," Lavigne explains. "But it's a smart bug: It morphs into a cystic form, so you have to take other antibiotics at the same time. It went undiagnosed for so long that I was kind of fucked."

She Turned To Her Faith

Lavigne is open about how her faith has helped her. In her return to music in 2018, she wrote several songs about how her faith helped with her Lyme Disease struggles. "I had accepted that I was dying," she says to Billboard. "And I felt in that moment like I was underwater and drowning, and I was trying to come up to gasp for air. And literally under my breath, I was like, 'God, help me keep my head above the water.'?"

She Gets Her Vitamin D

"Just being outdoors, you get a fair amount of sun exposure and some sun-related generation of vitamin D," says Yale Medicine endocrinologist Karl Insogna, MD, director of the Yale Medicine's Bone Center, to Yale Medicine. "Because skin cancer, particularly melanoma, can be such a devastating disease, it's best to use sunblock when outdoors in strong sunlight for any prolonged length of time. Because this may limit the amount of vitamin D you get from sun exposure, make sure your diet includes sources of vitamin D from foods or supplements," he says.
