She’s Motivated To Stay In Shape

Demi makes sure to live a healthy lifestyle. She says that she is motivated to stick with her lifestyle, as she doesn’t want to feel unhealthy. “I was tired of feeling lethargic and not taking care of my body,” she told POPSUGAR. “I decided to change that, so I got a trainer and I started working out.”

She Does Jiu-Jitsu

Demi also shared some of her favorite exercises with POPSUGAR. “My favorite workout is ju-jitsu,” she says. “I love training ju-jitsu. When you’re rolling with somebody, you’re constantly thinking of defending or attacking moves, so it’s kind of meditative in a way, but it’s also a great workout when you’re training — when you’re really moving around with somebody.”

She Takes Care Of Her Mental Health

Demi is all about taking care of her mental health and wellbeing. “I believe [self-care] is like a pyramid,” she said to POPSUGAR. “There are three things that you need to feel great. There’s physical fitness, nutrition, and mental health…I think it’s important to take care of yourself emotionally and physically, but mainly emotionally, because if you’re not taking care of yourself emotionally, your mind can go to dark places. It’s important to learn to love yourself for who you are, and accept yourself.”

She Mixes Up Her Workouts

Demi likes to do a variety of things to stay in shape. “I work out six days a week and I take Sundays off,” she said to POPSUGAR. “Several days I’ll do an hour of cardio, and several days a week I’ll do an hour of strength training. On top of that, some days during the week I’ll work out for two hours where I’ll do an hour of cardio and an hour of MMA, or I’ll do an hour of strength training and an hour of MMA — but I don’t do that every day!”

She Does Cardio

One of Demi’s favorite things to do to stay in shape is do cardio workouts. “I feel like my stamina is up,” she tells POPSUGAR. “And I’m able to have longer, more rounds when I box and things like that.” The Mayo Clinic states that cardio has a lot of benefits. “During aerobic activity, you repeatedly move large muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You’ll notice your body’s responses quickly. You’ll breathe faster and more deeply. This maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. Your heart will beat faster, which increases blood flow to your muscles and back to your lungs.”

She Does Physical Activities On Rest Days

Demi broke down her weekly workout and diet with Women’s Health. She says that she makes sure to take rest days. However, she also makes sure to do some activity on those days. “I don’t rest on my laurels on my day off. I really look forward to active recovery like yoga or just walking. It keeps me focused on where I want to be with my body.”

She Functional Trains

In order to perform, Demi does workouts that will help on stage. She tells Women’s Health that there’s one exercise she likes to do in particular. “Functional training is key for my body. My shows are really energetic, so I try to train my body for the dancing and physical element of my performances – it’s tougher than it looks!”
