She Is Vegan
Heather maintains a meat-free lifestyle. While she doesn't "push anything on anybody, as everyone has their own rights on the way they want to live," she does cook incredibly healthy meals at home. "Since Tarek and I have been together, he has cut out animal products significantly, and when I cook dinner at home, I cook gluten-free and plant-based. He is very supportive of me being vegan. Even at our wedding, we had both a regular and vegan menu, and everything was gluten-free—the vegan Bolognese was a guest favorite. We also had two cakes that were both gluten-free and vegan. From the very beginning of our relationship, he always made sure that whenever we ate out, there were always vegan options—and our wedding was no different," she told VegNews.
She Kickboxes
"I'm really into fitness and running—I love kickboxing and dancing," Heather told Super Street. "This kind of boxing has many health benefits because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital tells Harvard Health."You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs."
She Exercises Every Day
Heather makes exercise a daily gig. "Fitness makes me so happy," she added to Women Fitness. "I never look at it like….ugh I have to workout today. I get excited to do it. Right now I do a strength training HIIT class 3-4 times a week. And on the days in between I run 3-4 miles."
She Brings Her Own Meals to Work
Heather prepares her own meals, even when she is working. I am vegan and I always workout no matter what," Heather told Women Fitness. "Lunch is usually quinoa salad or veggie salad. I snack in between on nuts or a vegan protein bar (which has little ingredients) And I drink tea in between meals. No coffee, I actually have never tried a cup. I do have a sweet tooth though, so I choose to not even have sugar because once I start i can't stop." She also loves protein smoothies.
She Takes Supplements
Because Heather is a vegan, she makes sure to take supplements to get any nutrients she might miss out on. "I take fish oil and vitamins daily," she told Women Health. According to the Mayo Clinic, fish oil supplements can do your body good. "Omega-3 fatty acids are derived from food. They can't be manufactured in the body. Fish oil contains two omega-3s called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Dietary sources of DHA and EPA are fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel and trout, and shellfish, such as mussels, oysters and crabs. Some nuts, seeds and vegetable oils contain another omega-3 called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)," they say.
