Vicki told ET that she lost 22 lbs. in three months by consuming just 500 calories a day. She focused her diet mostly around raw foods and skipped lunch in lieu of liquids. “I cut out all alcohol. 500 calories a day,” she revealed. “And no carbs, so I just did lettuce and grapefruit in the morning. Some celery, carrots. Whatever it could be, just very raw. And then nothing really for lunch. I would just do water, lemon water. Hot lemon water. And then at night, I would just have salad and protein, and it worked!” One problem: "If you lose weight by crash dieting or by drastically restricting yourself to 400 to 800 calories a day, you're more likely to regain weight quickly, often within six months after you stop dieting," says the Mayo Clinic. "Exercise can help you maintain your weight loss. Studies show that people who lose weight and keep it off over the long term get regular physical activity."

5. She Dabbles in Keto

1. She Works Out Early in the AM

In an Instagram Story posted in September 2020, Burruss revealed that she had gained 20 pounds during quarantine. “The beginning of COVID, I was working out and I was in shape. And even then, I wanted to lose 10 pounds, but I ended up getting lax and comfortable and I ended up gaining 20. So that means I have 30 pounds of which I really would like to lose. And I just want to better myself overall. I just want to get used to making working out a part of my regular routine,” she said. She started working out with her cousin Patrick. “He’s a trainer,” she revealed. “He got up and came to my house at 7 a.m. for us to work out. It’s gonna be our regular time. So, I hope that I can stick to this.”

2. She Cut Sugar and Bread From Her Diet

In March 2021, she revealed that her weight loss journey was successful. “I’ve lost 20 pounds since November,” she told Hollywood Life. “I want to lose 10 more pounds.” She also revealed that cutting out two things from her diet was the game changer: Sugar and bread. “I took out all sweets,” she said. “I stopped eating all sweets, bread.”

3. She Only Drank Water

Another way that Kandi achieved weight loss success, was eliminating all sugary beverages. “I only drank water, no juices, anything,” she added to Hollywood Life. "So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is," says the Mayo Clinic:

  • "About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks."

4. She Took Appetite Suppressants

Kandi also admitted to taking appetite suppressants, “so I didn’t feel hungry all of the time,” she told Hollywood Life. “I’m not even going to lie to you, I needed a little help, so it just helped me stay on course.” BE careful before taking any supplement for weight loss. "It's important to do your homework if you're thinking about trying a weight-loss supplement. Check credible websites, such as those run by the U.S. Office of Dietary Supplements and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health," says the Mayo Clinic. "Also be sure to talk with your doctor before taking any supplement. This is especially important if you have health problems, take prescription drugs, or are pregnant or breast-feeding."

5. She Fasts

Kandi is also a fan of fasting. “I always do this prayer fast during the first month of the year,” Kandi told Hollywood Life. “But I actually did it for 2 months. December, January.” There is another type of fasting called alternative day fasting. "Followers of alternate day fasting adhere to a schedule that switches back and forth between eating and fasting. Those who abide by this diet alternate between one feast day and one fast day, which typically includes a 500-calorie meal," says our sister site Eat This, Not That! "The trick is to make sure you are still eating healthy on days when you are not fasting," Heather Hanks, MS CAM, nutritionist and medical advisor at Medical Solutions BCN, told Eat This, Not That!. Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits and how she is losing her baby weight.


1. Boxing

Ciara likes to fight – when it comes to fitness at least. “I like boxing when I’m trying to figure things out,” she told Women’s Health in November 2022. “That’s a part of [my] ‘therapy’—exercise.” Harvard Health maintains that boxing is a great way to build strength, improve balance, posture, hand-eye coordination, boost mood and endurance, and helps increase alertness.

2. Training Her Abs the Right Way

Ciara has diastasis recti, “when your ab muscles split after birth,” she told Women’s Health. “When I learned this, it was game-changing because you can train wrong for your abs. I had to educate myself on that and learn to retrain my abs.” She has to be careful about the type of ab work she does. “I’ve accepted that my body will never be what it used to be,” she added.

3. Working Out Five Days a Week

Ciara spends a lot of time at the gym. She usually tries to exercise five times a week. “When I train, it’s a combination of plyometric workouts mixed with weights and cardio as well, because I dance. The cardio conditioning is really important for me, especially being here in Denver,” she says. “It’s another beast, with the altitude.”

Ciara rides her Peloton on the days she skips the gym. “I love Ally Love. She’s my favorite.” According to Cleveland Clinic, biking, both indoor and out, is a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

5. “Balance”

Ciara’s approach to diet? “It’s really about balance,” she says. She usually starts her day with eggs and fruit, a small cup of ice-cold decaf coffee or a frappé. Mid-morning she will grab a handful of almonds and cashews as a snack. For lunch, she likes to eat grilled chicken, broccoli, and a sweet potato. After another small snack, for dinner she will have veggies with seafood.

6. Hydration

Ciara makes sure to hydrate. She drinks a whopping gallon of water a day. “That’s kind of my flow,” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

7. Committed to Health as a “Lifestyle”

“I’ve really worked on committing to working out and eating as a lifestyle,” Ciara says. “And then I have moments where I give myself grace. I haven’t worked out this week, because I’ve been traveling up and down, taking the kids to school, doing interviews. It’s been so much going on that I’m like, Let’s not stress. But tomorrow, we’re back in, we’re back outside, and we’re back in the gym.”

In a new video the My Big Fat Fabulous Life star reveals that she is down to 285 pounds, modeling a cute outfit and celebrating her father’s birthday. She also addressed claims that her weight loss is the result of medical surgery. Here is what she had to say – and everything else we know about the reality star’s weight loss.


1. She Did “Not Have Medical Intervention to Lose Weight”

“I hate addressing this, but no, I have not had medical intervention to lose weight,” Whitney wrote in her post. “In 2015 (season 1), I weighed 385 pounds. In 2018, I lost 50 pounds. When my mom got sick and eventually died, I lost 50 more. I weigh 285 pounds and I have been this weight for almost a year now. This is the second time in my life I’ve lost 100 pounds. I’m still very fat. Thank you for the compliments, but I really don’t like obsessing over my body and I don’t like it when others do it either.”

2. In September, She Also Addressed Weight Loss Surgery Claims

“I think it's obvious that I have lost some weight and that is true," she said in a September 2023 interview with ET. “And people say, like, 'Is it surgery?' and I'm like, 'No, it's grief, but thanks,'" she said, mentioning the death of her mother. "I see a lot of chatter online and people have asked me, 'Have you had weight loss surgery?' or something like that. No I haven't," Whitney continued. "On the show, I'll talk about my weight more, but in my personal life, I don't really find it necessary to talk about how much I weigh. It's just not something that I care to focus on and talk about."

I'm still very healthy and very conscious of it, but I've gotten a little bit more lax. True Roots and True Comfort had nothing ‘white’ in them: no white flour, no white sugar, no white salt. But in Truly Simple, I bend a little bit in a few of the recipes, which really reflects where I am in my life and my new way of eating. Everything is a little bit more relaxed around here now.’

She shared one of her favorite recipes with EatingWell. “This salad has a few of my favorite things: salmon (which has omega-3s and is so, so good for you), bacon (no explanation needed), avocado (healthy fats), and spicy tomatillo ranch dressing (just yum). Together, they create culinary heaven. If you aren't familiar with tomatillos, they're similar to tomatoes but are slightly less sweet and are perfect when drenched in ranch.”

She says that consistency is one of her biggest priorities. “My goal is sort of, right now, just to maintain the muscle that I have,” she says. “I’m really petite. I have no hips. I’m just small. And so if I don’t work out for like a week or two, I feel like all my muscle goes away. So it is about consistency for me.”
