1. Weight Training
Garth lost 30 pounds after turning 41 and realizing she was unhappy with her health and physique. The actress combined intense workouts with a clean diet to lose the weight and keep it off. "I've been working out really hard," Garth told Health. "I've been weight training with a trainer three days a week… I really never sit down. I mean, that's basically the secret. It's just not sitting around."
2. Clean Diet
Garth enjoys a nutritious plant-based diet. “[For breakfast] I eat oats in almond milk, and add almond slivers, blueberries, strawberries, chia seeds on top,” she tells The Beet. “But I eat the oats right after I pour the oat milk on them, even before they are softened. I love the crunch of it. [For lunch] a salad. On a day when I am eating well, everything I can find goes into my salad: Avocado, tomatoes, nuts, and for sweetness, I like to add green apple into the mix. We love Mexican food in our house, and though it's not the healthiest, you can make a taco with lots of vegetables. I love the vegan cheese, and I'll make a tortilla with vegan cheese, like Daiya, which is my current favorite!
3. She Plays Golf
Garth is an enthusiastic and accomplished golfer. “For exercise, I do a lot of stretching. I also love to get outside any chance I get, and right now I am into golf!” she tells The Beet. “It's a great activity both mentally and physically because you can walk the course. It keeps me sharp too since you really have to focus. But mostly I love it because it's a way to spend time in nature and see beautiful vistas and trees. And there is a lot of walking involved!”
4. Healthy Habits
Garth’s weight loss regimen is rooted in common sense and good habits. "I'm just taking care of myself. Eating less, exercising more, drinking a lot of coconut water," she told PEOPLE. "I eat a lot of Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt in the morning, salads and proteins the rest of the day and maybe a cupcake if I've been a good girl."
5. Arthritis Gel
Arthritis runs in Garth’s family, which is why she was happy to partner with Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel. “I always knew that arthritis ran in my family, so it was something that was kind of on my radar,” she tells New Beauty. “I started to feel some stiffness in my hips and knees and I wanted to ignore the signs; I associated it with getting older and I wasn’t interested in that. The reality is, I am getting older, I am aging and things are starting to happen.”
