Kate Beckinsale is a very successful actress and a hoot on social media. She is best known for her role in the Underworld film series. Beckinsale recently did some yoga, and posted a video of herself doing poses on Instagram. In it, she is seen doing different leg extensions and stretches. She is seen wearing a black workout outfit. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Kate Beckinsale stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Does Yoga

Harvard Health states that yoga has a lot of benefits. One thing that Beckinsale might be experiencing is being more in tune with her body. “People who practice yoga and are mindful eaters are more in tune with their bodies. They may be more sensitive to hunger cues and feelings of fullness. Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years gained less weight during middle adulthood. People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.”

2. She Circuit Trains

Beckinsale shared her diet and exercise secrets with Shape Magazine. She says that she likes to circuit train. “I do circuit training interspersed with brutal cardio, such as crazy things on a non-motorized treadmill. That part is torture. But the thing I like about circuit training is that you're never doing one thing for very long. You get to the point where you almost can't bear it, and it changes to something else."

3. She Works Out In The Morning

Beckinsale has a busy schedule. So how does she fit working out into her schedule regularly? She works out in the mornings. "I basically wake up, eat breakfast, and then work out,” she told Shape. “I prefer to get it done in the morning. That said, I don't naturally get up early. It would be much better for me if the entire world went to bed at 4 a.m. and woke up at noon. But it doesn't, so I'm usually staggering around first thing."

4. She Eats Healthy

Beckinsale makes sure to eat healthy. She talked about her diet in an interview with Shape. "I was a vegetarian for a really long time because I am incredibly squeamish about meat. But when I was filming Pearl Harbor, I didn't have enough energy, and the trainer I was working with at the time said 'You've got to start eating chicken and fish.' So I did, and that helped me. Lily and I eat clean-we have a lot of sautéed vegetables like brussels sprouts and broccoli and chicken and fish. Also, I don't drink alcohol. I feel [its effects] very quickly, so I've never actually had an entire glass of anything alcoholic."

5. She Protects Her Skin From The Sun

Beckinsale has amazing skin. One of her secrets is protecting her skin from the sun. “I didn't see sun for the first several decades of my life and that's probably been a big help,” she told People. “A great deal of it was geography [growing up in England], but the other thing was on the very rare occasions when we would go on a family vacation somewhere hot, I was paranoid that I would get freckles in a mustache formation on my face. So I was wearing Factor 70 [SPF]. I just didn't want a mustache, that's really why I used sunscreen."

1. She Does Yoga

“You’ll find yourself in Bulgaria, and you don’t know anyone, and they’ll say, ‘Well, we have a trainer who’s available, and he’s literally called The Punisher,’” Kate told Women's Health. The magazine says she “packs yoga workouts recorded by Jessica James and Mandy Ingber.” “I haven’t been injured while doing an action movie, and I think it’s partially from practicing yoga," she said.

2. She Does This Exercise

Kate recently revealed some of the workout moves responsible for her famously fit figure and also showed off her majorly impressive flexibility. She started out by executing a series of hanging leg raises, followed by knee raises on a pull-up bar. Next up, battle ropes! However, instead of getting just a hardcore arm workout in, the actress added a side lunge to the mix. To complete the workout, Kate’s helped her do some stretches, revealing just how flexible she is. “Do you have any bones? Omg,” singer Peter Frampton commented. “Damn, the only way I could get either of my legs that far back would be to amputate it and hold it back there with my hand,” joked one of her fans.

3. She Puts the Work In

One of Kate’s trainer’s Brad Siskind of Gunnar Peterson’s gym, revealed that Kate’s workouts are always this intense. "The whole hour is work," he told Women’s Health. She generally begins with a full-body workout composed of eight compound exercises, each working two muscle groups simultaneously—as can be evidenced in her latest workout video. Other moves include biceps curl as she squats, or situps with combination punches. Following the intense set she will complete 90 to 120 seconds of a cardio interval, like rowing or the VersaClimber, then repeat the entire circuit with heavier weights, added bands, or faster reps. Finally, following the 45 minute circuit workout, she’ll finish with a cardio interval using a rubber Inertia Wave, or one-leg pushes on a curved SkillMill treadmill. And, last but not least, she will do stretches.

4. Sometimes She Does “Two-a-Days”

"I wake up, eat something, and go straight to the gym," she told Women’s Health. "If I’m going to do cardio, I’ll do it later on in the day," she said.

5. Sometimes She Trampolines

Kate has been known to trampoline. “It makes you feel kind of jolly!” she said. Fellow star Eva Longoria is also a fan. "Take the time to find your own rhythm," she captioned one post.

Kate Beckinsale is chasing her dog around the gym. In a new social media post the actress shows off her fit-at-50 body in a workout ensemble while sharing her new joy in life. “Well. Fitness used to be my passion…..” she jokes in the caption. “This wins the internet for me today @katebeckinsale,” her trainer, Gunnar Peterson, commented. “What a good dog,” added another one of her followers. How does the actress keep her body looking forever young? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

1. Yoga

Kate is a devoted yogi. She maintains that the practice keeps her limber and protects her body. “I haven’t been injured while doing an action movie, and I think it’s partially from practicing yoga," she told Women's Health. There is a laundry list of reasons to do yoga, explains Harvard Health. “Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,” they said. “People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.”

2. Clean Eating

Kate is a clean eater."I was a vegetarian for a really long time because I am incredibly squeamish about meat,” she told Shape. However, one of her trainers noticed her lack of energy, and recommended that she add chicken and fish back into her diet. “So I did, and that helped me.” Overall she maintains a clean diet, trying to avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates as they make her feel “very sluggish” she told Delish. She tries to eat protein and vegetables, which “suit my body very nicely,” she said.

3. Compound Exercises

Kate works out with Brad Siskind of Gunnar Peterson’s gym, who recently dished about their sessions. "The whole hour is work," he told Women’s Health. She starts off with eight compound exercises that work two muscle groups simultaneously – like bicep curl as she squats, or situps with combination punches. Then she does 90 to 120 seconds of a cardio interval, like rowing or the VersaClimber, then repeats the entire circuit with heavier weights, added bands, or faster reps. After her 45 minute circuit workout, she might finish with a cardio interval using a rubber Inertia Wave, or one-leg pushes on a curved SkillMill treadmill. After her workout, she will stretch.

4. Separating Cardio and Strength Training

Kate might do two-a-days, but will split up cardio and strength training. "I wake up, eat something, and go straight to the gym," she told Women’s Health. "If I’m going to do cardio, I’ll do it later on in the day," she said.

5. Trampoline Jumping

Kate is one of the many stars who enjoys trampoline fitness. “It makes you feel kind of jolly!” she said. Adding a spring to your step can help you get into shape faster. A NASA study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology claims that rebounding exercise is 68 percent more efficient than jogging. As far as calories burned, a study by the American Council on Exercise found that mini trampoline workouts effectively burn an average of 12.4 calories per minute for men and 9.4 calories per minute for women. According to a 2016 in the Journal of Sport and Health Science trampoline jumping also helps with bone density and strength.

1. She Uses Exercise to Relieve Stress

“I’m very connected to my body, so if I’m going to experience stress, I’m probably going to experience it physically,” she says. “So it’s usually a good idea for me to go do something physical to get rid of it. I kind of have to think of myself as a horse or something—time for a run around the paddock,” she told Women’s Health.

2. She Does Strength Training

The Fashion Awards 2021 - Red Carpet ArrivalsNeil Mockford/FilmMagic

Beckinsale will do squats while also doing something else simultaneously, like a bicep curl. “Before stepping into the squat rack or grabbing those heavy dumbbells, be sure to check in with your squat form. Stand in front of a mirror and begin with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-distance apart, giving yourself a good base of support. Throughout the squat, make sure your heels stay on the ground and your knees stay behind the front of your toes. As you begin to lower into the squat position, think about pushing your hips to the back of the room (or whatever is behind you). Continue to lower your glutes until parallel with the floor,” advises ACE Fitness.

3. She Does Cardio

British Independent Film Awards CeremonyLoredana Sangiuliano/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images

Kate will do cardio, including the rowing machine. “To do the seated row with a weight machine, start by sitting on the weight bench with your knees bent and by grasping the cable attachment. Your arms should be extended and your shoulders stretched slightly forward. Slowly pull the cable to your waist, until your elbows are bent and your shoulders are back. Then slowly return to the starting position. You'll feel tension in your back and arms,” says the Mayo Clinic.

4. She Stretches

Kate stretches after every workout and is impressively flexible. Try this Calf Stretch from the Mayo Clinic: “Your calf muscle runs along the back of your lower leg. To stretch your calf muscles:

  • Stand at arm's length from a wall or a piece of sturdy exercise equipment.
  • Place your right foot behind your left foot.
  • Slowly bend your left leg forward, keeping your right knee straight and your right heel on the floor.
  • Hold your back straight and your hips forward. Don't rotate your feet inward or outward.
  • Hold for about 30 seconds.
  • Switch legs and repeat.
  • To deepen the stretch, slightly bend your right knee as you bend your left leg forward.”

5. She Eats Protein

Stella McCartney Celebrates Her New "Get Back" Capsule Collection And Documentary Release Of Peter Jackson's "Get Back"Rich Fury/Getty Images

Kate eats protein before a workout, like chicken or eggs and also eats salmon for lunch. “Protein is an important macronutrient that your body needs for increasing calorie burn, decreasing hunger, and maintaining muscle mass. Not only that, but a diet with a sufficient amount of protein can actually help you to feel full. The RDI for protein is between 46 and 56 grams of protein for an average adult. A 3 oz. salmon fillet will actually give you around 21 grams of protein, which is almost half of the amount of protein you need for the day,” says our sister site Eat This, Not That!

6. She Trampolines

Like fellow star Eva Longoria, Kate has used a trampoline to get fit. Doing so can work your core and drain your lymphatic system. “I just got into trampolining, and it’s the greatest thing. There’s this woman, Lauren Kleban, who does LEKFit, and I think she’s a genius because she streams classes online. It makes you feel kind of jolly!” she has said.

1. She Goes Hard…and Allows Herself to Recover

Bruno, known for his snarky sense of humor makes a valid point about his star client in his latest video: She works hard and rests hard. “We all know the importance of rest and recovery, but @kateupton took it to a whole new level and invented the ‘mid-workout nap’. This is genius. She’s been getting personal records left and right in the gym, so I’m definitely gonna try it out myself and with the rest of my clients. As she likes to say: ‘work hard, nap hard’,” he captioned the video. “PS: Those squat jumps in the pool and the barbell-loaded hamstring bodycurls are no joke. Seriously impressive stuff.”

2. She Does Pool Workouts

Canada Goose And Vogue Host Cocktails And Conversation About Impact Climate Change Has On The Future Of Polar Bears With Kate UptonJB Lacroix/Getty Images

This isn’t the first time Kate has done a pool workout. “The pool workouts look easy, but they’re actually really tough. Here’s a clip of the hand weight circuit and the bar circuit, but we also do a bunch of lower body stuff, and sometimes we’ll bring the KBox or some dumbbells out by the pool and do a mix of weights and pool stuff,” he wrote alongside another Instagram video of one of her sessions.

3. She Prioritizes Exercise

Bruno told Cosmopolitan that Kate works out five times a week. Her sessions are one to two hours long and consist of strength training exercises like a mix of deadlifts, hip thrusts, lunges, rows, and sled pulls, that work her entire body. "A lot of girls are scared to do strength training because they fear that they're going to bulk up, but if you do the right stuff and focus on the right exercises, it actually helps tighten everything up. Kate has really tightened up her physique noticeably as she's gotten stronger,” he explained.

4. Her Diet Is Clean

According to Bruno “Nutrition is more than half the battle,” when it comes to Kate. “She committed to both the training and the eating right from the get-go, and that's why she's seeing such great results." She eats mostly lean protein and veggies, avoiding added sugars and processed foods. "That's been key," Bruno explained. "If you limit sugar and processed food, that takes care of most of the problems." She also loves smoothies and a glass of wine on occasion. “I don't want it to feel like an unbearable diet. There's not a set cheat day or anything like that, but she does have treats here and there,” he says.

5. She Has Workout Buddies-Slash-Competition

Kate has both a workout buddy and competitor in Chelsea Handler, another one of Bruno’s celebrity clients. The girls are constantly tagging each other in workout videos, trying to one-up each other.

6. Her Lifestyle Is Active

Even when she isn’t in the gym, Kate maintains an active lifestyle. She loves hiking, swimming, tennis, riding horses, and even rock climbing, sharing images of her adventures on social media. She also does aerial yoga.

How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.

She’s Consistent

Last year, Culpo was preparing for her wedding. She told E! News that she made sure to be consistent with her wellness in order to prepare. “Really trying to dial in [on] what I eat, how I workout, the workouts that I do. Trying to get them in consistently because you only get married once and I want to feel my best. But this past season it was just hard being so far away from my normal routine and where I typically live."

She Keeps Her Skin Healthy While Traveling

Culpo has amazing skin, and she makes sure to take care of it, even while traveling. “I don't wear any makeup when traveling," she says to Travel + Leisure. "That's one rule because I do feel like you will have a higher chance of breaking out if you are wearing a full face of makeup. A few things I always have with me is some sort of a spray. I love Dr. Barbara Sturm or Caudalie or La Mer. I also absolutely love traveling with a makeup wipe, the Neutrogena wipes are great. Something to just take off the sweat you build up.”

She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Culpo shared her skincare routines with Byrdie. She says that she keeps her morning and night routine simple. “I am always trying out new products, so what I gravitate toward is often changing. At night, I usually use an oil and a serum. Right now, I love the Clarins Double Serum. In the morning, I use a Vitamin C serum and an SPF, and, typically, I just rinse my skin with warm water instead of using a cleanser. It is something I swear by—it allows for the oils on my skin from sleeping to absorb naturally.”

She Uses Products With Vitamins

Culpo shared some of her favorite skincare products with Byrdie. She says that she uses ones that have vitamins in them. “I have noticed a huge difference in my skin with vitamin C and E. I love the Good Janes H2OMyGod Moisturizer—it's sort of an all-in-one moisturizer that has vitamin C and collagen peptides. As for vitamin E, I actually just purchase the oil from the drugstore. It is super cheap and great to put on any red marks I may get from an occasional breakout. The healing process is so much quicker when I am using Vitamin E oil.”

She Packs Healthy Snacks

Culpo makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of the snacks she packs with her with Travel + Leisure. "I love the Kind bars. I love any sort of nuts, to be honest with you. They are a go-to snack for me. I would say Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% and some almonds would be perfect! Also, electrolytes to stay hydrated or some sort of collagen beauty powder or something."

Abigail swears that abiding by simple rules helps her stay in shape. “I can’t diet. That just doesn’t work for me,” she told New Beauty. “I started to be healthier by first cutting out soda. Then, I stopped eating after 7 p.m. Finally, I started really watching my portions so I was eating fewer calories every day. And water—lots and lots of water.”

Abigail explains being accountable for what she eats is crucial. While it’s not “rocket science,” she does use the MyFitnessPal app to track her eating. “I’m the type of person who likes to eat what I want. The app can help anyone do that—you can still eat great food, you just eat less of it,” she added New Beauty.

Pilates

Abigail is a fan of Pilates. “Group workout classes are so big right now, but I always get nervous around other people in settings like that. I have to go at my own pace without a bunch of distractions so, for me, Pilates with a one-on-one instructor works best. It’s not cheap, but then you also aren’t tempted to skip,” she said She added to Men’s Fitness via Muscle & Fitness that the workout “keeps you long and lean” — and the Mayo Clinic agrees. They say it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Balanced Diet

“I love green juices and smoothies. Sometimes I’ll put some protein powder in the morning—I feel like the mix of vegetables, and vitamins and stuff that’s in them, really gives me a lot of energy in the morning. I love BBQ food—my ultimate cheat is a pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese from this great place in LA,” she told Men’s Fitness.

Strength Training

Ratchford also lifts weights. “Initially, I made the mistake that a lot of girls do and I was only doing cardio. I just really didn’t see too much change in my body. I’ve been listening to my girlfriends who are in great shape and they say you have to do weight training, you have to go in and do squats. That’s my new thing—I’ve been doing some resistance training, circuit training,” she told Men’s Fitness. The Mayo Clinic explains that strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

Develop strong bones

Manage your weight

Enhance your quality of life

Manage chronic conditions

Sharpen your thinking skills
