Kate Hudson Shares Why Her 'How To Lose a Guy' Chemistry With McConaughey Was Unmatched
Kate Hudson has starred in some of the best rom-coms and films of all time. No matter how often you watch them, they truly never get old. The actress, producer, director, and screenwriter won us over with her iconic roles in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Bride Wars, You, Me and Dupree, Fool's Gold, Something Borrowed, Almost Famous … and the list goes on. Hudson hasn't slowed down, either, as she's currently crushing it as Isla Gordon in Netflix's new comedy series, Running Point.
The 45-year-old star recently did a "Scene Selection" interview with Vanity Fair where she re-visited some of her most note-worthy roles and shared what it was like to make them. It's the nostalgia all of us needed.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

The "Scene Selection" begins with Hudson rewatching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days—namely, the legendary scene where her character, Andie, and Matthew McConaghey's character, Ben, argue while singing "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon onstage during a party.
"Just the fact that Carly Simon allowed us to just butcher her song on a stage," Hudson said with a laugh. "The fact that Carly is so cool that she's like, 'Sure, you know what, go for it!' It was truly an amazing experience, and Matthew just brought it, and he always does … he just brings so much amazing energy to everything he does."
Hudson also revealed she and McConaghey have a "similar type of joie de vivre"; they're both "very competitive by nature," "competitive with each other," and "very flirtatious." She added, "I think there's just a similar energy that somehow allowed us to be able to really connect on screen and fall in love … as actresses, I think you have great loves in your work, and he's one of my great loves.

Almost Famous

Next, Hudson rewatched a scene from Almost Famous, where her character Penny Lane meets William Miller in a parking lot.
"Oh my god I'm such a baby! I haven't seen this in a while," Hudson said. "We were there for like two weeks on this ramp … I also really sprained my ankle on that, because I was wearing these really high platforms, and I remember thinking I was so young, and I was like, 'I am not going to show anyone how much pain I'm in.'"

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Another scene Hudson revisited was when her character Birdie Jay "struts" out in a bikini in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
"You know when you have to do that you can't drink for like a good two to three weeks," the actress explained. "How am I going to be in Greece and not have rosé at least once … It's gonna test my discipline, but I did it, I did it."
Hudson also revealed that she picked up strength training while shooting the movie. "I love to work out. It's one of my favorite things to do. I love strength training; that's where it really started, was for that movie … It like changed my life," she said.

Bride Wars

Hudson rewatched the scene in Bride Wars where her character Liv gets her hair dyed blue at the salon. She revealed that the conversations Liv had with her hairdresser were all improv.
"I love improv; it was always my favorite thing growing up. And when you know your character so well, I just keep talking," she said. "When I'm watching this, I'm like, 'Oh, none of this is written.' I forgot all about this!"
The actress shared that she really enjoyed producing Bride Wars. At the same time, it was "one of the more challenging experiences" she's had, because she set her sights on making a film that was a little "more raunchy," similar to Bridesmaids. The script turned out to be a bit more PG.
"Women, we know how to laugh at ourselves, and we can be raunchy, too, and sometimes we need to go there," she added.
