Treadmill Sessions
Rae likes to work up a sweat on the treadmill. "While treadmills may seem boring, they can offer a good alternative for exercise, depending on how you use them," says Dr. Adam Tenforde, with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard-affiliated Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. "There is so much more to treadmills than just 'push the button and start walking.'"
Light Weights, High Reps
Rae's workouts include light weights with plenty of reps. "More repetitions with lighter weights can build muscle as well as heavier weights — assuming they are done to the point of exercise-induced fatigue," according to Hospital For Special Surgery. "And fatigue is the important point. That means even with light weight, the last two to three reps should be hard."
The Power Of Positivity
Rae focuses on positivity, which can help lower stress. "One thing about me that surprises people is that I am just as happy as I am in the pictures," she says. "I try to always be positive, and people think that's not real. No matter what situation I've been in my entire life, good or bad, I've always [known] that things pass and get better."
Embracing Her Physique
Rae has learned to embrace her figure. "I feel really comfortable with myself and my body now, but that's obviously something I've had to work on and learn how to do," she says. "Because it's really hard to love the things about yourself that maybe people don't want you to love."
Mental Health Support
Rae protects her mental health by focusing on self love. "No matter who you are or what you do, there's going to be negativity," she says. "Social media can be toxic, and dealing with it is definitely an uphill battle. The comments can be so cruel, and it really throws me off that people even feel the need to say the things they do. I think if everyone just learnt to love themselves, they'd have less to say about other people."
