She Likes Treadmill Workouts
Reddy always hits up the hotel gym while traveling so she can use the treadmill. "There is no question that if you are not exercising and if you make the decision to start — whether it's walking, jogging, cycling, or an elliptical machine — you are going to be better off," says cardiologist Dr. Aaron Baggish, the associate director of the Cardiovascular Performance Program at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital.
She Loves Pita Bread and Hummus
Reddy loves traditional Mediterranean dishes such as hummus and pita bread. "The classic ingredients involved in making a traditional hummus like chickpeas, sesame seeds and olive oil have beneficial properties including being anti-inflammatory," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "In fact, virgin olive oil is said to have an anti-inflammatory action which is on a par with ibuprofen."
She Enjoys Home-Made Fried Chicken
Reddy likes to cook home-made fried chicken (and shares the recipe with her fans!). "In general, red meats (such as beef, pork and lamb) have more saturated fat than skinless chicken, fish and plant proteins," says the American Heart Association. "Saturated fats can raise your blood cholesterol and increase your risk of heart disease. If you eat poultry, pork, beef or other meats, choose lean meat, skinless poultry, and unprocessed forms. Also choose healthy portions."
She Likes Acai Bowls
Reddy enjoys acai bowls for a healthy snack. "Thanks to its high levels of antioxidants and phytochemicals, acai berries are believed to offer many benefits," says dietician Jennifer Shim. "These include heart health, by improving cholesterol levels, and cognitive function, by fighting inflammation and oxidation in brain cells."
She Loves Guacamole
Reddy's favorite healthy snack is freshly-made guacamole. "Avocados are a rich source of protective vitamin E, as well as carotenes including lutein and zeaxanthin, which are thought to help keep the eyes healthy," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin.
