Black Coffee and Avocado For Breakfast
Bruni likes to ease her way into the day with a light breakfast about an hour after waking. "I like to have avocado, a little bread and black coffee," she says. "But before I have breakfast, I drink a lot of hot water to wake up my metabolism slowly. I can wait one hour before I have breakfast. And that's quite a pleasant feeling—to be without digesting something and, you know, just being light."
Skincare First
Bruni is passionate about taking care of her skin. "I am very, very casual about makeup and hairstyling in my personal life," she says. "But I love skin care. I love scrubbing, cleaning and moisturizing. There is this dark soap with olive oil from Morocco that you can find in the pharmacies. It comes with a special glove, and you cleanse and scrub at the same time. It's even better if you use it with steam."
She Swims In the Sea
"I run or do the elliptical or StairMaster for cardio, something that makes my metabolism accelerate. I don't swim much in Paris because pools are complicated," she says. "I like to swim by the sea, but in the wintertime I mostly do Xtend Barre and some sort of cardiovascular workout, running or stepping, doing things like that. I do maybe one hour, an hour and a half."
A No-Diet Diet
Bruni enjoys a balanced diet with some fasting thrown in. "I don't have a particular diet. I still eat gluten, I still eat meat," she says. "I do try to eat in small portions. It's the only solution that works for me. Occasionally I like fasting for maybe 20 to 22 hours on a Sunday. It's no exercising that day, and I rest my metabolism. If I'm performing or working on songs, I love to drink tea — with honey, with ginseng, with ginger and lemon. It's so good for the throat."
She Keeps Things Balanced
One of the reasons Bruni works out religiously is so she never has to cut back on her favorite foods. "For the most part I like sports that you can feel and where you can sweat. For me… I either have to do sports, or I have to diet," she says. "I don't want to diet. I want to eat a little piece of bread or drink a beer. This is why I do sports."
