1. She Eats Organic When She Can

Theron opts for organic vegetables and high-protein food and avoids processed and fried options. “The hardest thing for me was I wasn’t prepared for how that amount of processed food will affect your mood, and I dealt with depression for the first time,” she said. “What they say about, you know, what you eat is kind of who you are is so true. I ate like a person who just didn’t move, and I felt like that. That was a hard thing to break because it’s more mental than it is almost physical.”

2. She Sticks to a Mostly Plant-Based Diet

Theron favors plant-based, vegan raw food in her regular diet. She might not be perfect, but tries to eat vegan whenever she can. Eating a plant-based diet makes her feel great and keeps her lean, she said.

3. She Loves to Be Active

CTAOP's Night Out 2021Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images

Theron was always active, but discovering Pilates was a game-changer. “It’s totally changed my body,” she said. “I’m always calculating my activity. If I haven’t been moving a lot, I can’t eat a lot. Or maybe it’s a cheat day. But I’m honest with myself.” When not doing Pilates, Theron does power yoga and cycling or spends time outdoors. “I love anything outdoorsy," she said. "My mom recently got me to play tennis, which I wasn’t good at, but really enjoyed it. If you do the exercise you enjoy you’re keeping yourself fit without even realizing it.”

4. She Mostly Avoids Alcohol

Theron avoids alcohol when she can. “I have juices and kale and green salads every day,” she said. “When I’m eating healthily, getting enough sleep and not drinking alcohol, that’s when I look my best. That’s when I’m happiest, and I think it shows.”

5. She Indulges in Cheat Foods

A,Rack,Of,Delicious,Baby,Back,Ribs,With,Barbecue,Sauce,Shutterstock

Like any other human being on the planet, Theron indulges herself from time to time. Ribs and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are among her favorite cheat foods. At one point, she needed to gain nearly 50 pounds for a role. “I ate a lot of everything, but my drug of choice is potato chips,” she said. “Everywhere. I had a bag in the car, a bag in the bathroom, a bag in the kitchen, a bag on the couch, a bag in my trailer. Everywhere I went, there was just a bag.”

Charlize Theron helped raise awareness for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project with a very fun charity tennis tournament called Desert Smash. Theron, 48, shared pictures and video of herself wearing a white tennis skirt and black shirt, posing with her fellow players. “This week I got to immerse myself in two of my favorite things: Tennis, and @CTAOP 😍 So grateful to everyone who came out, and the team who has kept this epic event going strong for 20 years!” she captioned the post. “👏👏👏,” commented fellow tennis enthusiast Courteney Cox. Here’s how Theron looks and feels better, both inside and out, with every year that passes.

1. Solo Hikes

Stylish,Hipster,Woman,With,Backpack,Looking,At,Amazing,Woods,AndShutterstock

Theron works out for self-care as well as her physical health. “I really love getting the gym out of the way in the morning – it’s when I have the most energy,” she told Vogue. “For me it’s very motivational and it’s like the best caffeine in the world, my brain is not good when I don’t workout. Between 7am and 8am in the morning I’m always doing something. I’m either at the gym or I’ll do Pilates or a hike – that’s the one hour I tend to take for myself. It’s a way for me to start my day and feel balanced.”

2. Pilates and Weights

Theron loves Pilates and weight lifting. “I don’t do any exercise in my life that I hate,” she told Vogue. “Everything that I do I love, and I love switching it up. I love when I go and lift weights and I work with somebody who’s going to make me do things that I haven’t done before, so it’s constantly a challenge. I’m very into Pilates, I’ve worked with the same teacher for close to a decade now. I have a [reformer machine] in my house and she lives close to me, so most of the time our workouts are here at home.”

3. No More Weight Gain

Woman,Measuring,Her,Weight,Using,Scales,On,FloorShutterstock

Theron refuses to ever gain weight for a movie again. “When I was 27, I did Monster. I lost 30 pounds, like, overnight,” she told Allure. “I missed three meals and I was back to my normal weight. Then I did it at 43 for Tully, and I remember a year into trying to lose the weight, I called my doctor and I said, ‘I think I’m dying because I cannot lose this weight.’ And he was like, ‘You’re over 40. Calm down. Your metabolism is not what it was.’ Nobody wants to hear that.”

4. Beauty With Age

Theron feels more beautiful with every passing year. “And when I try to figure out why, it's because I feel like I have found more power,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I don't have time for [bs] anymore. I just feel more comfortable the older I get. And I think a lot of that is because I have found my power and I have real true happiness.”

5. No Facelift

Theron loves that her face is changing, and gets exasperated when people ask if she had a facelift. “I’ve always had issues with the fact that men kind of age like fine wines and women like cut flowers,” she told Allure. “I despise that concept and I want to fight against it, but I also think women want to age in a way that feels right to them. I think we need to be a little bit more empathetic to how we all go through our journey. My journey of having to see my face on a billboard is quite funny now.”

She captioned it, “Yesterday was such a fun shoot, I just had to share these with you 🤍 🛥️But picture number #4?? That photobomb totally got me 😂 Which picture is your favorite ?🌊”

She Swims

As you can see from her post, Zelu likes to swim. The Mayo Clinic states that swimming has a lot of benefits. “Swimming is often touted as a great workout for all ages, offering benefits not only for the body, but also for the mind. As a form of exercise, swimming keeps your heart rate up and builds muscle strength. It also can be a great form of stress relief.”

She Doesn't Compare Herself to Others

Zelu shares a lot of her thoughts on Instagram. In this post, she talked about no longer comparing herself to others. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today’s contemplation led me to a profound understanding of the detrimental impact comparison has on our lives. It’s like a silent intruder, subtly creeping into our thoughts and poisoning our perception of ourselves and others. It’s a universal struggle, one that weighs heavily on the hearts of many. I’ve come to realize that comparison is the ultimate thief of joy. It robs us of our ability to appreciate our own journey and achievements, as we constantly measure ourselves against an idealized version of others. I’ve resolved to break free from its grasp. We should choose to celebrate our own unique path, recognizing that each step forward is a triumph in itself. Rather than fixating on external benchmarks set by others, I’m focusing on personal growth and development. Whether it’s through learning new skills, cultivating gratitude, or simply practicing self-compassion, every effort counts.”

She Hikes

Zelu is seen on a hike in the previous Instagram post. Harvard Health states that hiking is very beneficial. “Like brisk walking, hiking is a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, particularly if your route includes some hills, which will force your heart to work harder. Taking a hike on the slightly uneven surface of a trail also provides a natural way to engage the core muscles in your torso and to hone your balance skills.”

She’s Resilient

Resilience is another important thing to Zelu. She talked about this in the caption of this Instagram post. “Dear Diary 💭📝, I witnessed something truly remarkable that touched my heart deeply. It’s amazing how people can go through the toughest storms in life and yet remain gentle, patient, and kind. I saw someone who faced challenges that would break most people, yet they chose to respond with grace and humility. Their ability to stay calm and compassionate in the face of adversity is nothing short of admirable. It made me realize the beauty of resilience – the strength to keep going even when life throws its hardest punches. These individuals not only endure the storms but also emerge from them with a spirit that shines brighter than before. Their example reminds me of the power of kindness and the importance of staying true to oneself, even in the darkest of times. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there is beauty to be found 💕🫶”

She’s Accepted Herself

Zelu talked about the importance of acceptance in this Instagram post’s caption. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but amidst it all, I feel like I’ve taken a step closer to the right direction. Letting go of the past is like shedding a heavy coat I’ve been carrying for far too long. It’s not easy to release the memories, the pain, the regrets, but today, I made a choice to loosen the grip they had on me. It’s like taking a deep breath after being underwater for too long—refreshing and liberating. Forgiving myself has been a journey filled with tears and moments of self-doubt. But today, I finally understood that I deserve the same forgiveness and understanding I give to others. It’s like giving myself a warm hug, wrapping myself in kindness and acceptance.”
