China explained to Revista Gente that when she needed to lose over 10 pounds for a role, she enlisted the help of professionals to do it safely. “I took care, guided by doctors and nutritionists, I followed the diet, I trained, I reduced the amounts and I noticed that eating less makes me very bad-tempered,” she said.

2. She Ate a Lot of Protein

During an appearance on the Mirtha Legrand program, she added that eating a lot of meat and chicken helped her drop weight fast. “I had to eat a very high protein diet to make the movie Abzurdah: meat, chicken, meat, chicken,” she said.

3. That Led Her to Become a Vegetarian

After eating so much meat, China took a "detox" week and ate just vegetables and fruits. It was then she decided to become a vegetarian. “I never ate meat again,” she said. “I said ‘I'm going to take a week to detox’ and I couldn't eat anymore. I had the mixed feeling that I loved animals while eating a churrasco,” she added. Now her diet consists mostly of "vegetable protein, lots of nuts, legumes.”

4. She Boxes

China loves to box. “Guess who started training in 50 degree heat and at noon. Without excuses,” she captioned an Instagram post of her workout. "This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's hospital tells Harvard Health."You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs.”

5. She Does Yoga and Pilates

"Today I took Pilates and yoga classes. I think I deserve an award ," China wrote in one of her Instagram Stories. Both yoga and pilates are very effective workouts. “Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,” says Harvard Health. “People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.”

TV presenter and actress Sofía Rivera Torres is soaking up the sun in Mexico City, Mexico. Torres, 30, shared a picture of herself posing in the pool in a bathing suit and gold jewelry, her hair wet from having just had a swim. “Ready?” she captioned the post. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Torres stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. Working Out Five Days a Week

Torres works out with husband Eduardo Videgaray five times a week. She is also careful about her diet due to thyroid issues. “It was simply a matter of modifying my diet, now I am about 12 kilos [26 pounds] down,” she says. “Every day Eduardo and I go to the gym to exercise five times a week.”

2. Rose Water

Torres swears by rose water for helping maintain her skin health and beauty. She even puts rose petals in her bath for a touch of luxury. Rose water is said to have anti-inflammatory properties, and can help soothe eczema and rosacea symptoms.

3. Limes With Everything

Torres loves adding fresh-squeezed limes to her food and drinks. “Limes are low in calories, high in micronutrients and punch above their weight with regard to both water and fiber content,” says Carly Sedlacek RDN, LD. “They’re really good for us, but most of us aren’t going to make a snack of them. The juice — without added sugar — is the best we can do.”

4. Sushi Lover

Torres loves sushi and sashimi, especially salmon. “Just 3.5 ounces of salmon has 20 grams of protein, which is vital for cell repair and production, muscle health, and fighting infections,” according to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. “It also contains iron, further supporting muscle metabolism.”

5. Lots of Swimming

Torres puts those many bathing suits to good use—she loves to swim. Aerobic exercise such as swimming is good for both physical and brain health. “We know that physical exercise, and aerobic exercise in particular, is very beneficial for maintaining brain health, even in people who are at risk for developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease,” says neuropsychologist Aaron Bonner-Jackson, PhD. “With regular exercise, you can make a major difference in terms of how your body is functioning and, as a result, how your brain is functioning.”

The opportunity comes to you, you'll see if you ride it. Hold on tight, don't let go. Laugh... Weeps that each one has his time. Laugh... Cry, live your life, enjoy it all.”

4. She Gets Her Vitamin D

"Vitamin D isn't naturally found in many foods, but you can get it from fortified milk, fortified cereal, and fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. Your body also makes vitamin D when direct sunlight converts a chemical in your skin into an active form of the vitamin (calciferol)," says the Mayo Clinic. "The amount of vitamin D your skin makes depends on many factors, including the time of day, season, latitude and your skin pigmentation. Depending on where you live and your lifestyle, vitamin D production might decrease or be completely absent during the winter months. Sunscreen, while important to prevent skin cancer, also can decrease vitamin D production."

5. She Likes the Beach

"Swimming can improve mood in both men and women. For people with fibromyalgia, swimming can decrease anxiety, and exercise therapy in warm water can decrease depression and improve mood. Water-based exercise can improve the health of pregnant people and has a positive effect on the pregnant person’s mental health. Parents of children with developmental disabilities find that recreational activities, such as swimming, improve family connections," says the CDC.

1. Black Coffee

Sanchez starts her day with black coffee, which is shown to be beneficial for liver health. “We have a lot of evidence that coffee is good for the liver,” says liver specialist Jamile Wakim-Fleming, MD. “Coffee is especially helpful when it comes to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.”

2. She Loves Seafood

Sanchez loves seafood such as lobster, which she adds to meals including pasta dishes. Shellfish are a great source of nutrients such as zinc, iron, and B12. Shellfish also tend to be low in calories, while containing protein and healthy fats.

3. Gym Bunny

Sanchez hits the gym for regular workout sessions. Research shows exercise is not only good for physical health, it can benefit mental and brain health too. Exercise also helps keep weight under control. "People often fixate on their cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure numbers. But exercise is the dimension that moderates other risks," says Daniel Forman, MD.

4. Resistance Bands

Sanchez uses resistance bands for squats. “One of the best things you can do is practice the squat,” says Joel Hardwick, ACSM EP-C, EIM2, an exercise physiologist at Piedmont Atlanta Fitness Center. “It’s probably the most functional exercise, and the one that you probably need most in your life.”

5. Hiking

Sanchez loves hiking in the beautiful outdoors. “There’s a lot of research that shows the effects of being in nature,” says sports medicine physician Matthew Kampert, DO, MS. “Our bodies find that certain colors can be stressful while some are calming. So, being out in nature with lots of green is a great therapeutic environment.”

Water Skiing

Sydney Sweeney arrives to "The Road to the Golden Globes Party"

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

We are committed to bringing you researched, expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food, health, and wellness. We know how important making choices about your overall health is, and we strive to provide you with the best information possible.

Mariana Morais is showing off her ab-fab figure – in a two-piece exercise set. In a new social media post, the fitness influencer flaunts her fantastic figure in a brown sports bra and leggings. “Self Progress & Development is not always linear. Sometimes we take steps back & that’s just a sign to course correct so we can leap forward. If 2024 wasn’t the year you expected, use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, & carry on. It’s you VS you - continue to try, focus on consistency > perfection & you will prevail 🤎 rooting for us all to strengthen our mind & bodies this year,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Prioritizing Digestion and Getting Blood Work Done

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Pilates

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
