McGuinness generally sticks to a healthy, protein-filled diet. “I usually have a protein shake first thing, followed by scrambled eggs and avocado after the gym,” she tells Closer UK. “In the afternoon, Paddy and I will eat out at a restaurant. I’ll order chicken salad with extra chicken to get a good protein hit after exercising. In the evenings, we’ll have salmon with broccoli and sweet potato. I snack on apples, bananas and grapes every day.”
2. She Practices Yoga

McGuinness incorporates yoga into her exercise regimen, and enjoys family yoga sessions with her children. “Yoga, meditation, and other mind-body practices train your body and mind to be able to cope with stress better and improve overall health and well-being,” says Marlynn Wei MD, JD. “In a national survey, over 85% of people who did yoga reported that it helped them relieve stress. Exercise is a very useful way to relieve stress, but yoga is different from spinning class or weight-lifting in that it powerfully combines both physical fitness with an underlying philosophy of self-compassion and awareness.”

3. She Does Resistance Training

McGuinness makes lifting weights look easy—the mother-of-three loves hitting the gym and doing resistance training. “Strengthening your muscles gives you the ability to perform everyday activities and helps protect your body from injury,” says the American heart Association. “Stronger muscles also lead to a boost in your metabolic rate, which means you’ll burn more calories even when your body is at rest. Don’t worry -- we’re not talking about professional bodybuilding. Simple, weight- bearing exercises that use free weights, machines or your body’s own resistance are the focus. You can do these workouts separate from your cardio activity or add resistance on to an existing workout. Choose the time and type of activity that works for you.”
4. She Likes Indoor Rock Climbing

McGuinness enjoys indoor rock climbing so much she even cut her nails short to be better at it. “You build a lot of upper-body strength when you climb, especially in the hands and fingers,” says Zack DiCristino, physical therapist and medical manager for USA Climbing’s national team. “But a lot of people don’t realize that if you’re using proper technique, your lower body gets quite a workout, too, with all of the squatting and jumping.”
5. She Takes Collagen
McGuinness takes collagen supplements to help strengthen her hair and nails. “Increasing collagen intake can go a long way to make your skin appear more firm and smooth,” says Amy Myers, MD. “Collagen can also benefit the appearance of your hair’s fullness and shine. Many people don’t realize that adding collagen to your diet can also help in reducing the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. When skin loses its elasticity and becomes thin, cellulite becomes more obvious. Collagen benefits your skin by increasing moisture retention, boosting elasticity, and helping to smooth out that dimpled appearance.”
