Claudia Schiffer in Bathing Suit Wears an "LBB"
Claudia Schiffer is 51 and looks as comfortable in a swimsuit as she did at the start of her career 30 years ago. She Embraces Her Age
Schiffer is refreshingly positive about the aging process, and embraces every year that passes. "I think age should be celebrated and revered," Schiffer tells VOGUE. "There's a reason we have cakes and parties on our birthdays, and I feel the same way about getting older each year. I am so happy to be turning 50 and have never felt more confident or happy in my life. I don't try to look or feel younger, I embrace now. If you're happy and healthy the rest will follow."
Baths, Candles, and Meditation
Schiffer indulges in luxurious baths when she has time for herself. "I use organic, natural skincare products from Bamford. I also love Epsom salt baths, meditating using the Calm app and lighting up candles like Baies by Diptyque," she says. "As moms, we're not very good at taking care of ourselves," says Kim Foster, MD. "Meditation allows you to become connected with the present instead of constantly looking forward and planning the next several steps in your day."
She Works Out To Feel Her Best
"When I started to have kids, I tried to be as healthy as possible and by doing so I feel my best today in my body and in myself overall," Schiffer says. "I workout by doing something different every day from tennis or a yoga class, to a 15-minute abs class online or walking on the treadmill for an hour while watching a movie."
She Eats Local and Organic
Schiffer doesn't eliminate any food groups, but she is careful to stick to locally grown organic fare. "In terms of diet, I make an effort to eat seasonal, locally organic grown fruit and vegetables, which are free from pesticides, and meat and dairy from organic farms like Daylesford," she says. "My treats are chocolates and every once in a while, a great red wine or my favorite Léoube Rosé." The benefits of organic food have been espoused by countless experts. "We know that the overly prevalent use of antibiotics in farm animals is a contributing factor in the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria—a major public health threat because this resistance can spread from animals to humans," says Philippe Grandjean, MD. "On organic farms, the preventive use of antibiotics is restricted and animals are given more space to roam in natural conditions, which lowers their risk for infections. These techniques have been found to improve animal health, prevent disease, and minimize antibiotic resistance."
She Takes Care of Her Skin
Schiffer never goes to bed without washing her face. "I have a busy schedule whether it's work, being a mum or spending time with my husband, so my morning and evening skincare routines are two of the few times in a day that I have to myself," Schiffer says. "It's really important to take time for yourself for your mental health and wellbeing, but also the key to having good skin and slowing the signs of aging. So not a 'trick' as such but having spent years on photoshoots with make-up being taken on and off, I learnt from a young age how important it is to take care of your skin. I've always been rigorous about cleansing and using natural skincare products that nourish and fortify your skin, which is why as I turn 50 my skin feels better than ever."
