Her Diet Is Healthy
Eating right is a big part of Deepika's stay-fit philosophy. Per Fabbon, this is what she eats in a day:
"Breakfast: Two eggs + low fat milk or South Indian food i.e. upma, idli, dosa
Pre-lunch: Bowl of fruits
Lunch: 2 chapattis, fish and fresh vegetables
Evening Snacks: Nuts and filter coffee
Dinner: Chapattis, veggies and fresh salad ('At night, I try to eat a light meal, but sometimes I don't succeed,' she said.)"
Between the nuts and eggs, she is getting her share of healthy fats, which are found in minimally-to-non-processed foods that are full of unsaturated fats and heart-healthy, polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. These are also the fats found in nature, from glorious foods like avocado, nuts, eggs, certain fish, and healthy oils such as olive oil. This is the healthy fat that helps you control your weight and strengthen your heart. And get this: they also help you burn fat—especially the monosaturated fats, which are the ones contained in nuts, avocados, and olives.
She Hydrates
"I make sure that I drink two liters of water a day to flush out toxins. I also have coconut water daily," Deepika said, according to Fabbon. Juices and smoothies are other drinks she likes. Make sure you're getting enough water throughout your days starting first thing in the morning.
She Eats Every Two Hours
Fabbon reports that another Deekika's other eating strategy is making sure she eats something every two hours. "My snacking is limited to health foods like walnuts, almonds and dry fruits," she said. Natural foods are smart choices. At the end of the day, there's little difference between eating that processed snack than eating the box that it arrived in.
She Cheats
Deepika allows herself to indulge. "I absolutely love desserts and, yes, I cheat very often. I think the key is not to be hard on yourself, but use moderation. One should eat everything in required quantity. You must know what suits your body the best," she said, per Fabbon. Indulging once in a while is healthy. Imagine a world in which you didn't have to torture yourself at the gym for hours on end because you sneaked one cupcake. Imagine a world in which you didn't have to slash tons of calories from your diet. Imagine a world in which you didn't have to feel pangs of guilt every time you indulge in your favorite tasty foods—or desperately cling to some newfangled dieting fad.
She Does Various Workouts
Deepika's go-to workout is pilates but incorporates Yoga for the mind-body experience. "I do a lot of freehand weights and four to five sets of stretching exercises with 10 to 20 reps in between Pilates or stretching routines," she said, per Fabbon. "I don't particularly like running, so I don't do a lot of conventional gym exercises. I try and exercise as often as I can, but when I'm traveling or shooting, I tend to skip it for days on end." She also takes 30 minute walks in the morning and evening.
