Isoardi loves delicious, nutritious lemons, picking them while they are ripe and including them in her many recipes. "If the activity is defined as personally rewarding or giving a sense of accomplishment or pleasure, or even seeing the pleasure of that pumpkin bread with chocolate chips making someone else happy, then it could improve a sense of well-being," says Jacqueline Gollan, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

Isoardi is a skilled and accomplished swimmer. Swimming is a great low-impact way of getting a cardio workout, experts say. Isoardi loves snacking on a fruit bowl with fresh kiwis, which are a heart-healthy food. "Including kiwi fruit as part of a healthy diet may support your heart health," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "This is because consuming them appears to increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) – the so-called 'good' cholesterol, reduces other blood triglycerides (fats) and reduces platelet aggregation, which may over time lead to atherosclerosis. Kiwi fruit also helps manage blood pressure, thanks in part to a reduction in angiotensin-converting enzyme. Being a useful source of potassium further supports the fruit's heart-friendly properties."

5

She Loves Spinach

Isoardi shares recipes with her fans, including one where spinach is added to meatballs. "I used them fresh because it's always good to eat fresh vegetables in season but you can also get them frozen," she explains in the video. "Spinach is loaded with protective compounds called polyphenols," Lewin says. "Studies suggest, that along-with its vitamin content these compounds may promote cancer-protective properties. Animal studies suggest including spinach in the diet may protect against colon cancer."
