Running
Mulvaney enjoys going for runs to support her fitness. "As you exercise more vigorously—stepping up from walking to running—you will boost cardio and pulmonary fitness," says Harvard Health. "At the same pace, running burns 20% more calories than a brisk walk. And a recent study revealed that runners—of all speeds—live an average of 4.25 years longer than non-runners!"
Baking
Mulvaney loves baking at home. "Baking is an opportunity to clear our heads and de-stress," says Pamela Honsberger, MD, family doctor and director of physician engagement and leadership development at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County, California. "When you focus your attention on an activity like baking, you're more present in the moment and less focused on stressors of the past or future."
Self-Confidence
Mulvaney says fashion gives her self-confidence. "I love getting dressed up," she says. "Since turning 18 I've really enjoyed wearing nice clothes. It makes me feel good. [Character] Amy doesn't care what she looks like, whereas I like a bit of glam and make-up."
Friendships On Set
Mulvaney enjoys the mental health benefits of close friendship with her younger castmates. 'We did all just find that instantly we became this tight-knit group of friends," she says. "We all socialize together. We've shown newcomer James Craven (who plays Aaron Sandford) the best places to go out in Manchester. We've taken him to all the clubs!'
Walking Her Dogs
Mulvaney loves walking with her dogs Bowie and Ziggy. "Walking can help protect you during cold and flu season," says Harvard Health. "A study of over 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once a week or less."
