Emily Ratajkowski has access to the best hairstylists on earth—but she still likes to cut her own hair. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 6 ways Ratajkowski stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. She Loves Black Coffee and Pastry

I know you cant tell a difference at the end 🤦‍♀️

Ratajkowski starts her day with black coffee and French pastry. "Every day I go to Blacktop Coffee and get this pastry called Kouign-amann with my black coffee," Ratajkowski told Harper's BAZAAR US. "I always pretend that I don't know what I'm getting. I'm like, "Um, hmm, I guess I'll get … a kouign-amann?" They're like, "Uh-huh."

2. She Prefers a Subtle Look

2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Radhika Jones - ArrivalsKarwai Tang/Getty Images

Ratajkowski prefers a more natural look during the daytime. “I shower and wash my hair, usually with a basic L'Oréal shampoo; I'm more picky about conditioners because my hair's really fine and breaks easily,” she says. “If I'm going to the set, I don't put on makeup because there's someone there to do it. Otherwise I use a little Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream mixed in with Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, brush my eyebrows, apply a bit of mascara, and that's it for the day. I don't like taking a long time to get ready.”

3. Yoga, Hikes, and Spa Time

Ratajkowski spends her time off work working out, usually outside in the LA sunshine. “Days off, I'll get some time to exercise, maybe go on a hike or take a yoga class,” she says. “Once a month, if I have an hour to kill, I'll go to a spa in Koreatown. That's my little treat to myself.”

4. Lunch Is Simple

Ratajkowski keeps it fairly basic for lunch, especially if she’s working. “Lunch is usually a salad or a sandwich,” she says. “If I'm on set, I'll have catering, but I'm well behaved with that stuff. It's easy to go crazy—they know how to feed you.” "Build a salad based on the nutrients you need most or simply the tastes and textures you like best. For example, arugula and watercress are peppery, dandelion and escarole are bitter, mâche and iceberg are sweet, and a green called tatsoi has a mustard flavor, says Harvard Health. "The USDA recommends two cups of vegetables per day for women ages 51 or older, and two-and-one-half cups per day for men ages 51 or older. But a cup of vegetables is not the same as a cup of salad greens. It actually takes about two cups of greens to make the nutritional equivalent of a one-cup serving of vegetables."

5. She Never Eats Dinner At Home

“I never eat at home,” Ratajkowski says. “Dinner is my time to be social and catch up with people. I love this Italian restaurant downtown called Bestia. It's kind of fun, and they have good cocktails and wine. If I'm trying to be a little healthier, there's Café Gratitude downtown. There's amazing sushi at this tiny place called Mako in Little Tokyo. And I also love uni. Anything with uni in it is great for me.”

6. She Always Takes Off Her Makeup

“11:00 P.M. I chug water and take off my makeup,” Ratajkowski says. “I don't sleep with clothes on, so I just get naked, get under the covers, put on Game of Thrones, and relax… I sleep the best in my own bed, which is too bad because I'm not sleeping in my bed enough.”

1. She Sets Boundaries

Ratajkowski is firm about boundaries, something she wants young girls to be strict about. "For a young girl going into modeling today, I would tell her that the agencies, as much as they seem like they're protecting you, they're not," she says. "You have to learn to have your own limits and boundaries and to take care of yourself. I think the industry really needs to change, but that's one way that a young woman could protect herself."

2. She Keeps Her Phone Out Of the Bedroom

Ratajkowski makes sure to keep her phone out of the bedroom to ensure better sleep. “When things in my life start to feel stressful, or I look at the news and feel like, ‘Oh my God, everything is falling apart,’ it can really feed into anxiety,” she says. “One of the things that I don’t always do and I wish I did more is sleep with the phone outside of my bedroom. I think when you know that your phone is right by you and accessible to you, even if you’re asleep, I don’t think you shut out all of that, on a subconscious level.”

3. She Works Through Self-Doubt

Ratajkowski knows what it feels like to doubt yourself—but she always works through it. "I always felt very sure of the fact that I was never going to be as good as I wanted to be and I think getting past that and just doing it, and even doing something poorly and badly can be hugely important," she says. "The way to battle self doubt is to keep working. It's OK to have that feeling; you just have to move past it."

4. She Keeps Thing Balanced

Pitti Immagine Uomo 102 - Superga PartyStefania M. D'Alessandro/Getty Images

Ratajkowski knows the importance of downtime and relaxation. “I feel like, at least for me, that was a very new idea in the last two years,” she says. “Most of my life [physical and mental health] were very disconnected, but now I check in with myself more. Sometimes that means ordering a mountain of Thai food and staying at home and watching TV — and that can be wellness. I love eating a meal in bed on like, a Thursday night or whatever instead of going out and just being cozy, you see?”

5. She Loves To Read

emily-ratajkowski-1Emily Ratajkowski/Instagram

Ratajkowski’s love of reading eventually inspired her to write a book of essays called My Body. “I’ve been an avid reader my whole life, and it was one of the reasons I didn’t write more, because I had so much respect for wonderful writing that I felt like, ‘Why attempt, why not just appreciate?’” she says. “I’ve always been drawn to sparse, unpretentious writing. Flowery language doesn’t really interest me. It covers it up. It’s often difficult to be very direct and not flowery because you really have to figure out what ... you’re saying. I have so much respect for people who are good at that, especially in essays, because the idea of an essay is to get to the root of something, to investigate it.”

“I don’t have a trainer, and I don’t really go to the gym. I go on long walks and hikes with my girlfriends. That’s about it. I’m just not a crazy fitness person. I’m definitely an outlier in the industry,” Emily told The New York Times. “And doing yoga a couple of times a week is a really big part of my regimen.”

2. She Focuses On Being Herself

10th Annual Forbes Power Women's SummitTaylor Hill/Getty Images

"I think the biggest obstacle of my career has been transitioning and doing things that people didn't really expect," Emily told Harper’s Bazaar. "But I think you just have to forge ahead and do what you're going to do and be who you are."

3. She Prioritizes Self-Care

Emily puts priority on self-care. One way she relaxes? Exercising at night. "For me, the way I sleep afterwards is one of the main reasons to work out. I am always on my phone working and I think that's affected my sleep. I'm also really light-sensitive. When I work out, it's better than taking a melatonin. Because my body has worked hard, my brain finally rests and I think that is so valuable in this day and age — not to sound like an old geezer, but truly I feel that way," she told InStyle. She is also big into baths, regularly sharing photos of her soaks on Instagram.

4. She Walks Her Dog

Emily is the proud owner of a Husky mix, who she regularly walks in New York City. "I still can’t believe that he went from 13 lbs at 8 weeks old to approx 80 lbs in one quick year," Emily wrote, commemorating her pooch on his birthday in 2020. "He’s still the snuggliest though! He makes us the happiest and I’m going to take this opportunity to post a sh*t ton of pics of him ‘cause you know what? We all could use some puppy pics right about now. Hbd Colombo ILYSM."

5. She Takes Workout Classes

“I'm one of those people who, if I go to the gym by myself, there's a 50/50 chance of me actually working out and really pushing myself, so the class environment works really, really well for me,” Emily told InStyle. “I am also someone who, even in a class, will get chatty and [distracted]. I think that’s the great thing about STRONG — the music keeps me really focused and in the zone,” she continues. “You just feel like you're, you know, Superwoman really pushing herself. You end up working harder and it's a better, more intense workout, without even noticing.”

1. She Keeps Her Skincare Routine Simple

Ratajkowski has incredible skin, and she makes sure to take care of it. She revealed to Vogue that she has learned to keep her skincare routine pretty simple, after trying a bunch of things at home."In quarantine, I went crazy and ordered a bunch of skincare products. One of the things I've learned about beauty: I just need the basics and for them to be really good. That was one of the ways that my skin freaked out because I was overusing products."

2. She Loves Face Masks

Ratajkowksi tells New Beauty that she loves to use face masks. She says that she loves the LOOPS brand in particular. “What I love about LOOPS is that it’s a mask that I can throw on for 15 minutes while I’m answering calls from bed. Or even like this morning—I had kind of a hectic morning and I was making my bed and running around having my coffee and taking calls, and I kept the face mask on while I was doing all of that, then I took it off and did my makeup.”

3. She Washes Her Face Gently, And Only Once A Day

Fanatics Super Bowl PartyAmy Sussman/Getty Images

Ratajkowski tells New Beauty that she makes sure to wash her face. She says that she only does so once a day, and makes sure to be gentle on her skin. “I used to think washing your face was really, really important—and I do still—but I think you should only wash it once a day at night, and really lightly. Because otherwise, at least for my skin, it strips my skin of the natural oils and makes my skin breakout because it dries. So I do wash my face at night, but I think simplifying it is better [for your skin]. Oh, and use cold water—not hot! That’s my new trick.”

4. She Loves Fitness Classes

Ratajkowski tells InStyle that she loves to go to fitness classes in order to help her stay in shape. “I'm one of those people who, if I go to the gym by myself, there's a 50/50 chance of me actually working out and really pushing myself, so the class environment works really, really well for me.” One of Ratajkowski’s favorite classes is STRONG classes from Zumba.

5. She Works Out To Help Herself Sleep

Emily Ratajkowski is an extremely successful model, writer, and clothing designer. She released a collection of essays entitled My Body. Her clothing line is called Inamorata. Ratajkowski shares a lot of gorgeous photos on social media. In a recent Instagram post, she is seen in an orange swimsuit, a swimsuit top, and a black halter top. She captioned the post, “Summer of feeling the context of all in which I live and what came before me.” How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Emily Ratajkowski stays in shape and the photos that prove they work.

1. She Prioritizes Skincare

Ratajkowski has amazing skin. She tells Vogue that she has learned to prioritize skincare. “I have gotten a lot better at being good with my skin. In my early twenties, I was just like, ‘I’m not dealing with this’, but now I put on sunscreen, use toner, and moisturizer. I have a whole routine. Then I get dressed—hopefully quickly, because my closet is relatively organized, and then I’m out the door.”

2. She Takes Care Of Her Hair

Ratajkowski shared her favorite hair products in her Vogue interview. I always say—even off the record—that Kérastase really did change my hair. When I signed [to be an ambassador] with them about five years ago, I didn’t know about good hair products and while I’m actually pretty decent at make-up, I’m not great at hair. I always just thought I had bad hair and that’s what it was. What’s great is that now I don’t have to do much to my hair because it’s all in the care and maintenance. I love the Extentioniste line because it makes my hair grow really fast! I’m somebody whose hair gets to a certain point and then breaks, but with that shampoo, it gets to a longer point. I also really love the oil—it’s lightweight and smells amazing.”

3. She Has A Nighttime Routine

Minsk,,Belarus,-,15,November,2021.,Bioderma,Sensibio,H2o,MicellarShutterstock

Ratajkowski shared her nightly skincare routine with Vogue. “I wash my face every night—well, I try to. I use Bioderma—it’s a French drugstore product that’s an amazing makeup remover. It’s the only one that just gets it done and doesn’t feel like it leaves something on your skin, or dries it out. When I’ve washed my face, then I use Biologique Recherche P50—some people don’t love it, but I am somebody for whom retinol is too extreme, so P50 is a happy medium. It balances my skin and I layer it with a pretty thick moisturizer.”

4. She Loves Zumba

Ratajkowski revealed in an interview with InStyle that she goes to STRONG by Zumba classes. “I'm one of those people who, if I go to the gym by myself, there's a 50/50 chance of me actually working out and really pushing myself, so the class environment works really, really well for me,” she said. “I am also someone who, even in a class, will get chatty and [distracted]. 5. She Gets Enough Sleep

Ratajkowski shared her secrets for getting enough sleep in her InStyle interview. “For me, the way I sleep afterward is one of the main reasons to work out. Ana Zelu is a professional model and social media influencer. She is known for her content in nature. Zelu recently shared a post on Instagram of herself on a surfboard in the ocean. She captioned it, “Yesterday was such a fun shoot, I just had to share these with you 🤍 🛥️But picture number #4?? That photobomb totally got me 😂 Which picture is your favorite ?🌊”

She Swims

As you can see from her post, Zelu likes to swim. The Mayo Clinic states that swimming has a lot of benefits. “Swimming is often touted as a great workout for all ages, offering benefits not only for the body, but also for the mind. As a form of exercise, swimming keeps your heart rate up and builds muscle strength. It also can be a great form of stress relief.”

She Doesn't Compare Herself to Others

Zelu shares a lot of her thoughts on Instagram. In this post, she talked about no longer comparing herself to others. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today’s contemplation led me to a profound understanding of the detrimental impact comparison has on our lives. It’s like a silent intruder, subtly creeping into our thoughts and poisoning our perception of ourselves and others. It’s a universal struggle, one that weighs heavily on the hearts of many. I’ve come to realize that comparison is the ultimate thief of joy. It robs us of our ability to appreciate our own journey and achievements, as we constantly measure ourselves against an idealized version of others. I’ve resolved to break free from its grasp. We should choose to celebrate our own unique path, recognizing that each step forward is a triumph in itself. Rather than fixating on external benchmarks set by others, I’m focusing on personal growth and development. Whether it’s through learning new skills, cultivating gratitude, or simply practicing self-compassion, every effort counts.”

She Hikes

Zelu is seen on a hike in the previous Instagram post. Harvard Health states that hiking is very beneficial. “Like brisk walking, hiking is a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, particularly if your route includes some hills, which will force your heart to work harder. Taking a hike on the slightly uneven surface of a trail also provides a natural way to engage the core muscles in your torso and to hone your balance skills.”

She’s Resilient

Resilience is another important thing to Zelu. She talked about this in the caption of this Instagram post. “Dear Diary 💭📝, I witnessed something truly remarkable that touched my heart deeply. It’s amazing how people can go through the toughest storms in life and yet remain gentle, patient, and kind. I saw someone who faced challenges that would break most people, yet they chose to respond with grace and humility. Their ability to stay calm and compassionate in the face of adversity is nothing short of admirable. It made me realize the beauty of resilience – the strength to keep going even when life throws its hardest punches. These individuals not only endure the storms but also emerge from them with a spirit that shines brighter than before. Their example reminds me of the power of kindness and the importance of staying true to oneself, even in the darkest of times. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there is beauty to be found 💕🫶”

She’s Accepted Herself

Zelu talked about the importance of acceptance in this Instagram post’s caption. “Dear Diary 💭📝, Today has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but amidst it all, I feel like I’ve taken a step closer to the right direction. Letting go of the past is like shedding a heavy coat I’ve been carrying for far too long. It’s not easy to release the memories, the pain, the regrets, but today, I made a choice to loosen the grip they had on me. It’s like taking a deep breath after being underwater for too long—refreshing and liberating. Forgiving myself has been a journey filled with tears and moments of self-doubt. But today, I finally understood that I deserve the same forgiveness and understanding I give to others. It’s like giving myself a warm hug, wrapping myself in kindness and acceptance.”
