She's Not Afraid To Be Vulnerable
Matuda opened up about her career to The Jiu-Jitsu Times. She says that she isn't afraid of showing her soft side once in a while. "Professional athletes, we don't show a lot of emotion," she explains. "We train to be killers. We train to be strong. We don't want to show a weak side. If you have a moment of weakness, you clean up your tears and keep fighting. So, to open up to someone you trust, and admit that you're feeling kind of weak, and to have someone listen – that makes a huge difference when you're dealing with a career transition."
She's Motivated By Success
Matuda talked about about what motivates her to The Jiu-Jitsu Times. "There is nothing that compares to this great feeling of being a world champion as a black belt," she says. "The feeling that all that hard work paid off. It's hard to find something else that's going to give you the same pleasure in life. So that's why you want more, and more, and more. Every year you win that title, it feeds that adrenaline. You get addicted to this feeling. Everything else feels boring. Everything! If you ask me if I do something outside of jiu-jitsu, my answer is just 'eat, sleep, and train.' This is what brings us pleasure – the serotonin, the adrenaline, all the things that make us feel great. That's why I think it's so hard when you start to think about stopping."

That's why you have to know yourself."
