1. Disciplined About Workouts
Scott takes her regular workouts seriously, and documents them on her social media. She does plenty of strength and resistance training. “Regular trips to the gym are great, but don't worry if you can't find a large chunk of time to exercise every day,” says the Mayo Clinic. “Any amount of activity is better than none at all.”
2. Fresh Apples
Scott enjoys fresh apples right from the tree. “Along with several vitamins and minerals, apples provide pectin, a soluble fiber that may help reduce or maintain blood cholesterol levels,” says Julie Garden-Robinson, PhD, RD, LRD. “Apples also provide health-promoting antioxidant compounds, especially in the peeling.”
3. Avocado Toast and Eggs
Scott loves avocado toast on Ezekiel bread and egg whites with cheese for a healthy breakfast. "A serving of avocado is one-third of a medium avocado," says wellness dietician Kylie Arrindell. "So to get those healthy fats without overdoing it, I recommend limiting the amount of avocado you put on your toast to two servings or less."
4. Protein and Vegetables
Scott enjoys protein such as chicken or shrimp with vegetables such as broccoli for typical lunch and dinner options, plus pasta on the side. “Shrimp are not only low in calories, but they are rich in protein,” says Texas A&M University. “Just 3 ounces of shrimp provide 20 grams of protein, nearly equivalent to the protein quality of 3 ounces of chicken.”
5. Healthy Smoothies
Scott loves homemade fruit and vegetable smoothies, which are a much better option than many store-bought options. “The ingredients you choose influence the nutrient content of your smoothie,” says Luanne J. Hughes, MS, RDN. “A smoothie that includes healthy ingredients like vegetables, fruits, protein, dairy or ‘dairy alternative,’ and fiber is nutrient-rich and abundant in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and more.”
