1. She Loves Ju-Jitsu

Shayk broke down her wellness habits in an interview with Women’s Health. She admits that she’s not the biggest fan of most cardio workouts, like running. However, she has found a cardio exercise that she loves. “Four months ago I started jiu-jitsu with my personal trainer, and it’s great. It’s a Japanese self-defense discipline, but because there’s so many possible move combinations, it’s brilliant for constantly challenging my body and pushing it to exhaustion every time.”

2. She Does Barre Exercises in Her Hotel Room

Shayk has to do a lot of traveling for her job. However, she doesn’t let her schedule stop her from working out on a consistent basis. Shayk tells Women’s Health that she does exercises in her hotel rooms, usually a barre workout. “If I'm traveling, I try to work out in my hotel room or at work during breaks, focusing on simple barre moves that don’t need any equipment and really work my arms and bum.”

Shayk may be a model, but she isn’t on any stereotypical model diet. She is open about her love of food, particularly unhealthy food. Shayk is also open about her love of a balanced diet. “Two days ago I had a huge burger with cheese, French fries, lots of ketchup, and a large Sprite,” she explains to Women’s Health. “But in the name of balance, I got up the next morning, did 30 minutes of barre in my room and ate steamed fish and grilled vegetables for dinner.”

Shayk has amazing skin, and she needs to keep it healthy for her job, especially since she has to wear a lot of makeup. She tells Women’s Health that one of her secrets is switching what moisturizer she uses. “I make sure I always moisturize. Some people find a favorite product and stick with it for years, but I swap between moisturizers every week, so my skin doesn’t get too used to one formula and becomes immune to its benefits.”

"I hate traditional cardio. Running is my worst nightmare," Irina told Yahoo, but she still does it: "Cardio's always good. It makes you sweat, it's the best.” “The Department of Health and Human Services also recommends getting 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. Being active 30 minutes a day on most days of the week can help you meet the guidelines,” says the Mayo Clinic.

“I’m in hotel rooms most of the time, and it can be hard to find a hotel with a nice gym,” Shayk told Vogue. “It was important for me to have a workout I could do in my room.” She added: “If you’re feeling jet lagged, or too lazy to get dressed, you can basically watch TV and do these moves.” One, says Vogue: “Grab a pillow for balance, and place your left leg straight behind you on the bed with your toe pointed. Bend your standing knee and lean your torso slightly forward. Then, lift up your left leg slowly and bring it out to the side, tapping it briefly back down on the bed before lifting it again and bringing it back straight behind you. Keep your arms tight, and engage the core, butt, hips, and thighs. Perform 15 to 20 reps, then switch sides.”

3. She Eats Clean Before Shoots

Shayk eats soups and salads before shoots. “Eating raw vegetables and fruits is a great way of incorporating more fiber into our diet, and this includes leafy greens. When you include fiber in your daily diet, you can help prevent obesity and type 2 Diabetes, as well as aid in healthy digestion,” says our sister site Eat This, Not That! "To increase your fiber intake when you reach for the salad, try adding some tomatoes, carrots, or cucumbers.”

Shayk may be a model, but she tells Vogue that she doesn’t put herself on “model diets.” She says that she focuses on living a balanced lifestyle. “I drink a lot of water, but I don't do diets,” she said. “People have this opinion of models that they don't eat - they'd soon stop thinking that if they saw me in a restaurant. I eat ice cream and cake, but it's a question of balance. If I eat something like that, I feel much better afterwards if I spend a few hours in the gym.”

Dressed in a sleek black workout set, she didn’t just make the workout look effortless—she made it look empowering.
