1. Dance

The primary way Janelle burns calories is by dancing. “I do a lot of heavy sweating up on stage,” she told Black Doctor. “We do 90-minute shows — I’m moving around and it’s very high-energy. That often becomes my workout, just performing and being onstage. I guess you can say I exercise a lot, but really, I don’t realize I’m getting a workout while I’m dancing onstage because I’m always having so much fun.”

2. Maintain a “Healthy, Balanced” Diet

95th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsJeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Healthy eating is another way Janelle prioritizes her health. “I try to keep a healthy, balanced diet on the road, though it can sometimes be hard. I try to eat a lot of salads while I’m traveling, but when I need a light, fluffy snack, I reach for my pita chips and hummus,” she told Black Doctor.

3. Hydrate

Water,Is,PouredShutterstock

Janelle understands that hydration is crucial for a variety of reasons. “I also drink a lot of water to stay healthy and preserve my voice on the road. I sip a lot, especially when I’m flying, since airplane travel can dry out your voice like crazy,” she told Black Doctor. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.

4. Be Happy

Janelle maintains that “in terms of staying fit and healthy, a lot comes from within. The happier you are, the more your beauty comes out. When you have a good heart and positive energy, you and the people around you are better. And that’s the best beauty and health advice you’ll find anywhere,” she told Black Doctor.

5. Don’t Eat Too Much Fish

Janelle was once a pescatarian. However, she revealed to The Cut in 2020 that she ended up with mercury poisoning from eating too much fish. "I started feeling my mortality," she added.

6. Prioritize Self-Care

“I think self-care is important, and it shifts with your growth,” she told Shape. “It used to be making sure that I take a vacation because I had been working 11 months out of the year. I needed time to play, to let my hair down, and run around naked. All of that is still important. And if I also want to drink, I'm drinking. You know what I'm saying?"

Candice Swanepoel is not just a model, she’s an entrepreneur. Her brand of swimwear, Tropic of C, is worn by some of the world’s top celebs, including herself. “Stairway to heaven,” she captioned a recent photo shoot of her on the beach. “Beautiful,” said fellow model and Cannes superstar Charlbi Dean. “🔥🔥🔥,” commented skin care guru Joanna Czech. 1. She Prioritizes Being a Mom

Venice,,Italy,-,August,27:,Candice,Swanepoel,Attends,A,PhotocallVittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images

Candice has two children. “It’s such a crazy experience, pregnancy and giving birth,” she told Vogue. “You don't really feel normal until a year afterwards. You really don't feel like it's your body. The fact that we can create a human being and and do that, it makes you proud no matter how your body looks or how you're feeling… After my last show or event in Milan, I fly back to New York for two days to be with my kids. So it's kind of like, you sacrifice that day of rest in between the shows to be with my kids. Like other people are like, yeah, I'm gonna go and have a rest when I get home. But when I get home, it's like when the real work starts.”

2. It’s Been a Rollercoaster

amfAR Gala Cannes 2022 - ArrivalsSamir Hussein/WireImage

“As a little girl, I wanted to be a ballet dancer. When I was a bit older, around 15, I was scouted at a flea market with my mom. I mean I've been in the industry for 15 years. It's definitely funny. Now when I think about how it used to be, you know, back in the day, we definitely had a lot more privacy. Like people couldn't go on Instagram and see what you're doing. People had to talk about you and you won over the client and the crew job by job. Like it was word of mouth.” Now? “I've been able to support my family and travel to the most amazing places. And it's a crazy, crazy roller coaster for sure,” she told Vogue.

3. She Grew Up “Raw”

“Growing up in South Africa was definitely very different,” she told Vogue. “I grew up on a farm. It was just very raw, very free. And I wish I could give my kids that same farm life, but I have a very different reality.”

4. She Uses Sunscreen Daily

“Protection from UV rays is important all year, not just during the summer. UV rays can reach you on cloudy and cool days, and they reflect off of surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow. In the continental United States, UV rays tend to be strongest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daylight saving time (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. standard time),” says the CDC. “The UV Index forecasts the strength of UV rays each day. If the UV index is 3 or higher in your area, protect your skin from too much exposure to the sun.”

5. Here’s Her Take on Makeup

Candice wears a concealer, mixing in some oil to smooth it out. “Doing your makeup I think, it's a moment for yourself as a woman to just tune into you and make yourself feel good," she told Vogue. “I have some sun damage and markings from pregnancy. It's a normal thing that happens. So just to set that a little, I use this MAC Prep and Prime. It's very lightweight. My skin is oily so, the shine comes through really quickly.”

1. She Believes In Constructive Criticism

Chanté opened up about being a judge on The Next Star to the Daily Hive. She says that she believes in giving constructive criticism, as it helped her get where she is. “It’s a balancing act. My mother gave me tough love & I do feel like some of the greatest talents were given encouragement, dedication but the hard truth. Without the tough love, I don’t know if I would have survived the industry unscathed. I feel like tough love is something a parent does, I’m a judge & my role is to be encouraging and give constructive criticism, not just critiques. As long as I see passion and drive, I feel the sky is the limit for these kids & I just want to spark that as much as I can!”

2. She Gives Back

The 4th Annual B.L.A.C.K Ball Hosted By Shamier Anderson And Stephan JamesGeorge Pimentel/Getty Images

Chanté makes sure to give back. She opened up about the charities she works with to the Daily Hive. “I'm a Youth Ambassador for CANFAR & I really enjoy that role. I feel when you get; it’s your responsibility to this world to give. That’s what really hits home for me. If everyone in this world were passionate about compassion for others, we wouldn’t have the problems we have in the world. I just want to do what I can.

3. She Believes In Happiness

Chanté prioritizes her happiness. She tells Faze that she believes success is when she’s happy. “Success is when you are happy with everything and you think everything is in place. Or someone else can look at me and say that I am successful. I take that compliment more as an opinion than a fact. My explanation of success is just me being able to say that I’ve done everything that I’ve wanted to do. So all these years that I have, if I can fulfill all of them to my highest capabilities then I’ll be like yeah! I did it.”

4. She Swims

Chanté spends a lot of time outside. Specifically, she likes to spend time at the beach or the pool. She likes to swim to stay in shape, and shares a lot of photos on Instagram of herself in the water. Chanté shared this photo of herself wading in the beach in Turks & Caicos. She captioned the post, “If DND was a person.”

5. She Gets Some Sun

A little bit of sun each day helps increase vitamin D. "Despite Australia having one of the highest skin-cancer rates in the world, Cancer Council Australia recognizes that some time in the sun without sunscreen or other protection is important, according to Robyn Lucas, Ph.D., a professor at the Australian National University College of Health and Medicine, who researches environmental effects on health," says Consumer Reports.

1. She Has Had Body Image Issues

Words,Eating,Disorder,With,Highlighter,And,Measuring,TapeShutterstock

“One time I met a fan on an airplane,” she told InStyle. “I think we were both coming back from Brasília, which is where my parents are from in Brazil. She and I were both headed back to LA and she came up to me when I was in line to get on the flight and then we found out that we were sitting next to each other and we ended up talking for the entire, I dunno, eight hour flight. I can't remember how long it was, but she and I talked about how we both had body image issues and how she also struggled with an eating disorder and how I helped her accept herself and she expressed her appreciation for the things I've spoken about and shared her story and it was really emotional and she's still a friend that I keep in touch with sometimes.”

2. She Uses Skin Masks

Mendes uses Loop skin masks. “I use them all the time. For me, I am somebody who's always struggled to find masks that fit on my face with loops. It actually just sticks on your face so well, and you can do laundry and talk on the phone and I don't know, you can do cartwheels if you want. You can literally do anything while wearing a Loops mask. And on top of that, it's really good skincare and the way that we weave it into a sort of daily skincare routine just makes it really convenient to use and very effective,” she told InStyle.

3. Speak Up For Yourself

Los,Angeles,-,Mar,12:,Camila,Mendes,At,The,2023Shutterstock

In Hollywood, she has learned “that nobody's going to look after you except yourself and you got to look out for yourself. You got to stand up for yourself and if you have a problem, speak up. Just do it respectfully and with grace. That's it,” she told InStyle.

4. She Remembers Her Riverdale Audition

Los,Angeles,-,Nov,15:,Camila,Mendes,Arrives,For,TheShutterstock

For her Riverdale audition, “I was the very last person they were seeing and I managed to squeeze in an audition and I got there 30 minutes late. My hair was frizzy. It was raining that day. I remember the casting director telling me, she's like, ‘You're a little matte right now. At CW, we're glossy.’ It's glossy lips. Cheeks are glowing. She's like, so come back a few days from now. Then they brought me back for a producer audition,” she told Stephen Colbert. Her friend did her makeup to make her look “glowy, like she just came out of the womb.”

5. She Does Pilates

Pilates offers numerous health benefits tailored to women's well-being. This low-impact exercise enhances core strength, promoting better posture and reducing back pain common in females. By focusing on controlled movements and breathing, Pilates cultivates flexibility, aiding in muscle tone without bulk. Women also benefit from improved joint mobility and balance, which becomes increasingly important with age. Stress reduction is another advantage, as Pilates encourages mindfulness and relaxation. Whether aiming to regain pre-pregnancy fitness or boost overall vitality, women find Pilates a versatile solution, enhancing physical resilience and mental equilibrium simultaneously.

Sophie Nélisse wowed us all on the Showtime series Yellowjackets, playing young Shauna, the teenage survivor of a plane crash with her fellow high school soccer players who grows up locked into a mystery that involves cannibalism, murder and betrayal. How did the 24-year-old Canadian land such a role, and how does she stay mentally fit? (One way is to take a vacation after all the hard work; she just shared photos of herself in a swimsuit in her recent “Mexico roll” photo dump.) Read on to see 5 ways Sophie Nélisse approaches life and work and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. She’s “Never Satisfied” With Her Work and “Shocked” at all the Love

“I'm quite the pessimist in general,” she told Dead Talk Live when asked about whether or not she thought Yellowjackets would get a second season. (It has.) “Like I'm never satisfied with any of the work that I do. So I was quite skeptical. But the show runners and everyone that was working on the project, they kept telling us towards the end of the shoot, how amazing the first episodes were and how the response to it was great. And they were very confident that the show would get the amount of love and respect that it got. I was skeptical. But it's hard to say when you're in it, when you're shooting it, there's always little things that you see that other people don't….I mean, I'm still kind of shocked at the amount of love we've been getting.”

2. This is Why the Show Broke Out So Fast, She Thinks

sophie-nelisse-instagramSophie Nélisse / Instagram

Why did Yellowjackets become such an immediate smash? “I think it's because it's mostly a bunch of women and that's something we're not used to seeing,” she told Dead Talk Live. “We're used to seeing groups of people and, and we know that men are strong and capable of such cruelty and aggressivity. And that's not expected of women. We're not used to seeing women's darker side and flaws. And I think that that's what makes the show so unique and, to see how strong women are together, when we work as a team and as a group were kind of undefeatable and I think that's what's so amazing about the show.”

3. This is How She Approached Playing a Younger Version of a Well-Known Actress

Vulture Festival 2021 - Day 1 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 13: Sophie Nélisse attends Vulture Festival 2021 at The Hollywood Roosevelt on November 13, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Rich Fury/Getty Images for Vulture)

Playing a young Melanie Lynskey, “For me, it wasn't that difficult because if you look at it from a character point of view, my character, when she's set in the wilderness or at any time, actually doesn't know what's gonna happen ahead of her,” she told Dead Talk News. “So I try not to let anything that's written of my older self affect my character, the way I play things, because Shauna doesn't know what events are about to happen. She doesn't know if she's gonna kill someone. She doesn't know what's to come. So I kind of try to just take it day by day. Obviously now that I've seen the first season and, and seen how Melanie plays Shauna, there are little things that I've picked up on, like the way she clenches her lips together sometimes, or the way she just plays certain lines, the dark humor that she brings to it. Those are definitely things that I'm gonna try to incorporate in the second season, if I have a chance.”

4. She Underwent a Physical Transformation

Vulture Festival 2021 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 13: Sophie Nélisse attends Vulture Festival 2021 at The Hollywood Roosevelt on November 13, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by David Livingston/Getty Images)

To play a young Shauna, “I had to go through obviously some physical changes because I'm blonde with blue eyes and in the show I've” got brown hair “with brown eyes. And I also noticed when we first started talking that we have quite a different like pitch in her voice, like she speaks way higher and I speak quite lower. So we kind of had to adjust to sort of meet in the middle and kind of, sort of sound the same.”

5. Here’s Why She Became an Actor

LA Premiere Of Entertainment Studios' "47 Meters Down Uncaged" - Arrivals WESTWOOD, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 13: Sophie Nelisse attends the LA Premiere of Entertainment Studios' "47 Meters Down Uncaged" at Regency Village Theatre on August 13, 2019 in Westwood, California. (Photo by Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic)

“I kind of fell into acting when I was young because my brother wanted to become an actor,” she said at the Toronto International Film Festival way back in 2016. “And at the time I was doing gymnastics, so I kind of just started acting a bit to get money, to pay for the travel expenses. And recently I was sitting down because I needed to find what I needed to study after I finished high school and I was looking at all these different jobs and I was like, nothing is as interesting as like acting. And I was like, there's nothing that fits with my personality as much as acting. I was like, being an actress: It makes me travel. It makes me meet different people every day. And the kind of the routine of like a job that you do the same thing every day, that really bugs me. And with acting, I don't have that. It's always something different and something new. And so I discovered that I really wanted to be an actress, only like three months ago.”

Delayed by a year, Edgar Wright’s genre-bending movie Last Night in Soho was worth the wait, if the glowing reviews are any indication. The film’s glowing star, Anya Taylor-Joy, also of The Queen’s Gambit, hit the film’s Los Angeles premiere last night in a plunging gold gown. How does the 25-year-old stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Anya Taylor-Joy stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bikini Photos!

1. This is Her One Beauty Rule

“Best thing: If you want to seem like you've made an effort, just literally slick on lipstick. It ties everything together. You don't need to do your eyes. You don't need to do anything else; just lipstick, and you're ready to go,” she told Vogue.

2. This is Her Go-To Getting Ready Music

Focus Features' Los Angeles Premiere Of "Last Night In Soho" - ArrivalsMatt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

“Ooh, it changes up a lot. I love a good bit of Motown that puts everyone in a really happy mood. My friend's just moved in with me, and she's very into the top 10. It's been educating for me because I've never really listened to the radio before, so that's really fun. There are some good dance beats out there. And then Mura Masa. There's something about his music that makes me feel like I've got everything and can handle it. It makes me really happy,” she told Vogue.

3. She Loves Baths

Focus Features' Los Angeles Premiere Of "Last Night In Soho" - ArrivalsMatt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

“My mum instilled in me a deep love of baths. I love baths! I think that would be my primary form of self-care. Baths have really helped me through lockdown. I like to make a ritual out of them. I’m big into the salts, and I make my own blend of essential oils for whatever it is that I want the water to give me. I’m a very spiritual person, so I love the act of getting into a bath, cleansing yourself, and then allowing whatever it is that you want to get rid of just stay in the tub. Recently, I’ve been using a lot of almond oil in the bath, which, hazard warning: It makes it very slippery. For anyone trying this at home, make sure you’re holding onto something when you step out of it! Along with almond oil, I’ve been using a lot of sandalwood, jasmine, and lavender if it’s nighttime, because it’s just gorgeous,” she told Vogue.

4. She’s Into Crystals

Gemstones,Minerals,On,Mysterious,Natural,Forest,Background.,Magic,Quartz,CrystalsShutterstock

Big time—prior to The Witch, actually. I’m such a big believer in cosmic destiny and putting one foot in front of the other, and my feet led me to that film. It’s been really fun watching [that kind of wellness] take off. I think it’s wrong for O.G. witches to be like, “Ugh, now everyone has crystals.” It’s like, Yes! Amazing. People are starting to open their minds to the idea of minerals having properties that can help you out, and it being less “inject this; this will make you feel great.” Just maybe take a couple of breaths and hold on to this crystal,” she told Vanity Fair.

5. This is Her Take on Skincare

Focus Features' Los Angeles Premiere Of "Last Night In Soho" - ArrivalsKevin Winter/Getty Images

“I’m pretty low-key,” she told Vanity Fair. “Growing up in Argentina, I was very much the roll-in-the-dirt kind of kid—the ultimate tomboy. So it took me a while to start washing my face, but now that I have makeup on it a lot, I like this cleanser by Chanel called Sublimage. It’s the one thing that doesn’t ever make me break out because I have such sensitive skin. There’s a nutrient mist by True Botanicals which is really nice. I’ve spritzed it in the face of every boyfriend I’ve ever had. Moisturizer I’m a bit more witchy with, in the sense that I love olive oil, I love avocado oil. And Egyptian Magic is great. You just put that on before you go to bed, and then you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh! I look all happy and like I’ve slept for 19 years.’”

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Strength Training

Mariana relies on old-school strength training to keep her body toned. “Training till failure instead of reps + taking my ab routine up a notch by incorporating weighted exercises,” she wrote about one of her workout tactics. “I can feel my muscles being challenged and am in tune with my movements.” According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Other healthy habits? “Prioritizing digestion,” she writes in the same post. “Making sure I get enough fiber & starting off every morning with a juice cleanse. This has helped me feel so much better everyday.” She also gets regular blood work done. “So important to check your levels and know what’s going on in your body routinely! Don’t skip the doc apts, always better to be preventative.”

Hiking

Mariana enjoys hiking. “Elevation therapy,” she captioned a post from one of her fitness adventures. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

  • Building stronger muscles and bones
  • Improving your sense of balance
  • Improving your heart health
  • Decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Emsculpt NEO

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
