1. Dumbbell Curl

Lopez starts off her workout set by executing some simple dumbbell curls, an effective way to build biceps. When Lopez was featured on the May 2021 cover of InStyle’s The Beauty Issue, she revealed that she has never felt more fit. "I'm in the best shape of my life,"

Next up? A bench hip-up. “This move works the core,” Bowen explains. Lopez explained to InStyle that she has become more efficient with fitness. “In my 20s and 30s I used to work out but not like I do now,” she tells the magazine. “It's not that I work out more; I just work out harder and smarter. And it doesn't take me as long as it did in the past. I do it more for my health than I do for looks, which is funny. When you do things for the right reasons, you actually look better!”

The third exercise in J.Lo’s set are cable chest flies. “These work the chest,” explains Bowen. Another one of her stay-fit secrets? “Very rarely will I skip my workout,” she told Us Weekly. “Sometimes, I work too late the night before, and I’m like, ‘Ugh, I can’t do this.’ But I tell myself, ‘Just do it. It’s only an hour.’ It’s just talking yourself off the ledge of being a lazy bum.”

Next, Lopez picks her dumbbells back up for lateral raises. This is another exercise that works the biceps, Bowen says. Throughout the video, Lopez chugs water. “She drinks a minimum of seven glasses a day,” Dodd Romero, one of her trainers, told US Weekly

"I am 100 percent convinced that working out is part of what makes me so happy," Jen tells HELLO! Jen works hard in the gym and has created a useful home gym with multiple running machines, so it’s convenient to fit a workout in.

Jen pushes the importance of drinking plenty of water, "drinking plenty of water, especially before a workout, can help you push harder and get more out of your exercise routine,” Jen says to HELLO! She claims it’s great for her skin, too. As mentioned on the Mayo Clinic, drinking plenty of water helps to keep the skin hydrated and looking its best.

3. She Works With a Trainer

"Dance has always been a huge part of my life and taking the time to move my body and do something that's so good for me is key to my happiness,” Jen said. David Kirsch, a personal trainer that works with Jennifer Lopez among other stars, shared her workout routine with Vogue during an interview. “We mix some cardio, plyometrics, full body, core and lower body into her workouts—they are very, very intense and she takes it very seriously, which is exciting for someone like me,” Kirsch explains. “You say, ‘we’re going to do this’, and she’s like, ‘great!’ Her workouts are fast paced. She’s very focused and high energy.”

At times, she’s revealed that doing a detox from sugar and carbs has been beneficial for her maintenance. According to the Mayo Clinic, if you’re looking to kick sugar, a short break might be the path to take. "Think of it as a palate cleanse," Katherine Zeratsky, a registered dietitian, explains to Mayo Clinic. “During that break, Zeratsky recommends eating only foods that have 5 grams of added sugar or less per serving. That information is now included on many food labels and will be on all food labels by 2021.” Even just two weeks can be enough to break that sweet tooth.

"I have her eating very clean because she needs really good fuel for all the things that she's doing," says Tracy Anderson, a trainer Jen works with, "It’s all organic and it’s all very well thought out, with the balance of very high-quality proteins and a lot of nutrient-dense food… everything is fresh." Ben Affleck opened up about his wife’s diet on the April 21 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “She’s the most gorgeous woman in the world and she looks spectacular,” she said. “Let me tell you something that’s going to upset you," he said. "Jennifer just eats whatever she wants and whatever she wants; cookies, ice cream, everything."

"The more strength we can get in our body by lifting is really something that makes me feel strong, able and empowered. Lopez has said that she wears “cute outfits” to the gym to motivate her. “I can’t leave the house without lip gloss and mascara, and honestly, I put the booster on my cheeks too, yeah I put it on, I want to look good when I look into the mirror,” she adds. Pasternak told Fashionmagazine.com, that the singer is on his famous “5-Factor Plan.” Pasternak describes it as "A workout made up of five phases, which starts off with a cardio warm-up for at least five minutes. Rihanna loves to ride on a stationary bike, whereas some people will jog, walk, run stairs. Phase two is an upper-body resistance exercise, such as a back row or a shoulder raise. Phase 3 is a lower body exercise, like a skater lunge or a hamstring curl. Phase 4 is an abdominal movement like a side bend or a trunk twist. Phase 5 is a cardio cool-down for at least five minutes. So she'll do a continuous circuit, and each day of the week we do different body parts."

Lopez drinks a lot of water, per Dodd Romero, her trainer. “She drinks a minimum of seven glasses a day,” he told US Weekly. He also revealed that her diet is clean, consisting of protein, vegetables, fats, carbohydrates and water. She “stays away from processed foods and gets her nutrients from whole sources,” he specifies. Her go-to proteins include egg whites, white meat turkey, chicken breast and grass-fed beef , while she gets her fats from fish rich in omegas like salmon and sea bass and “a handful” of nuts per day. Veggies are also in abundance, however, she avoids carrots and corn as they are higher in sugar than leafy greens. Other menu items include complex carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, rice bread and oatmeal with fresh berries.

ACE Fitness says that this has a lot of benefits. “Lifting heavy weights elevates levels of anabolic hormones—specifically testosterone, growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1)—which are used to repair muscle fibers damaged during exercise.
