She Does Yoga
Julia loves to strike a pose. "I really enjoy yoga and I can do it from anywhere because I follow YouTube videos. I love going to classes because there is that energy in the room, you have an instructor and you can ask questions too which helps. But yoga is something I can also do in my bedroom – put down a mat and half an hour is all you need. It focuses me for the day," she told Health & Wellbeing.
She Plays Tennis
She also enjoys tennis. "I have only recently taken it up again after playing it as a kid. But I have enjoyed going back and learning something that I was quite good at as a teenager. Now I'm pushing and challenging myself to improve," she told Health & Wellbeing.
She Has a Sweet Tooth
"I am definitely addicted to sugar," she told Health & Wellbeing. "I've always had an incredibly sweet tooth and I get that from my dad. We'll go out for dinner as a family and my dad and I will always order the same food (or should I say the same pudding). But, because I have become so much more aware of how much sugar is in everything, I've tried to reduce my intake every day."
She Eats Vegan Once a Week
Julia goes vegan once a week. "We'll do veggie bolognese with kidney beans or egg noodles and veg stir fry with sesame seeds. I use Quorn as well and make lasagne with it. I like bean burgers and veg burgers with a bit of halloumi on top. I'll do pasta with cheese and veg, that kind of thing," she told Health & Wellbeing.
She Walks
Being the host of Best Walks with a View with Julia Bradbury, it only makes sense that she is an avid walker. "I was filming six different locations over seven weeks and I walked off my baby weight," Julia told Fit & Well. "You're working hard on those shoots, on your feet for ten hours a day and covering miles. I think on one day we did about 25,000 steps." In order to keep track of her steps, she uses an activity tracker, aiming for 10,000 steps. "The other night it was about 11pm and I'd done 9,800 steps, so I ran up and down the stairs to get something, just so I'd hear the 'ding' to tell me I'd done my 10,000!"
She Recently Cut Sugar From Her Diet
Julia, who announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021, explained in a social media post that getting sick encouraged her to change her diet. "I've always had a sweet tooth & felt lucky that I could eat the doughnuts, dunk the biscuits every day & snaffle the brownies, without putting on weight. Since my breast cancer diagnosis I've been re-evaluating my diet & lifestyle & I realise that I'd let my sugar addiction creep up on me," she wrote on Instagram. "A treat is a treat, but loading up on refined sugar every day, just isn't healthy – whatever your weight. And it's not easy to avoid – sugar is hidden in foods under so many names." She encouraged followers to "Always read the ingredients list" and outlined the various sugars to look out for. "Eating lots of refined carbohydrates, including foods with added sugar, can lead to obesity. Obesity – having too much body fat is a clear risk factor for cancer.Body fat promotes inflammation, which can damage DNA and lead to cancer & other diseases A good rule of thumb is to eat the healthiest diet you can (balanced/varied) 80% of the time and save the treats for the remaining 20%."
