1. She Loves To Go Kayaking
Pandey enjoys kayaking whenever she gets the chance. “For people who just run and cycle, they tend to not have a lot of muscle mass in the upper body,” says Dr. François Billaut, an exercise physiology professor at Laval University in Quebec and the former head physiologist for the Canadian national kayaking team. “Kayaking offers a balance.”
2. She Lifts Weights
Pandey frequently posts videos on her social media of herself lifting heavy weights. “Numerous studies have shown that strength training can play a role in slowing bone loss, and several show it can even build bone,” says Harvard Health. “This is tremendously useful to help offset age-related declines in bone mass. Activities that put stress on bones can nudge bone-forming cells into action. That stress comes from the tugging and pushing on bone that occur during strength training (as well as weight-bearing aerobic exercises like walking or running). The result is stronger, denser bones.”
3. She Does Resistance Training
Pandey hits the gym to use resistance training equipment. "Bands naturally prevent you from cheating on the exercise, which is common when using free weights, especially among beginners," says Hayden Steele, NSCA-CPT, CSCS. "Cheating involves the use of momentum to get the weight moving. Once that momentum has been built up, the muscle fibers no longer need to be maximally activated to continue moving the weight through the rest of the range of motion. In other words, momentum is doing most of the work, not the muscles.”
4. Immune Supplements
Pandey takes immune-boosting supplements as part of her wellness regimen. “As an immunologist and functional medicine doctor, I always say that you cannot supplement yourself out of bad health or replace a poor diet with vitamins, but you can fill in the gaps to give yourself that extra leg up,” says Heather Moday, MD.
5. She Loves To Travel
Pandey loves to travel around the world and enjoy new cultures and experiences. “Foreign experiences increase both cognitive flexibility and depth and integrativeness of thought, the ability to make deep connections between disparate forms,” says Adam Galinsky, a professor at Columbia Business School. “The key, critical process is multicultural engagement, immersion and adaptation. Someone who lives abroad and doesn’t engage with the local culture will likely get less of a creative boost than someone who travels abroad and really engages in the local environment.”
