1. Lifting Heavy Weights
Martinez’s toned, strong physique is further proof—if any were needed—that women should not be afraid of lifting heavy weights. "It's vital that women lift enough volume and weight while also eating enough to support muscle gain,” says certified personal trainer Rachel MacPherson. Lifting weights also helps support bone strength, experts say. "Weight-bearing exercises put temporary stress on your bones, sending a message to bone-building cells to take action and rebuild bones stronger," says personal trainer Oscar Colon IV.
2. She’s a Yogi
One glance at Martinez’s social media shows she is a dedicated and accomplished yogi. “Practicing yoga is an amazing additive to your strength training,” says yoga instructor Ceasar F. Barajas. “It helps you ease the mind and come into more consciousness about breathing, which in turn is going to help you push/pull more weight.”
3. Sorbet From Scratch
Martinez loves to make healthy homemade sorbets using grapes, limes, and mint. “Grapes are fantastic because not only are they affordable, but they’re versatile,” says registered dietitian Anthony DiMarino, RD. “They can be used in a lot of different dishes and situations… Grapes do have a degree of melatonin in them. So they’re a great evening snack. They don’t have a lot of calories and they can potentially help you fall asleep.”
4. Snowboarding With the Family
Martinez loves winter sports like snowboarding, especially when the whole family joins in. “Cardiovascular or aerobic exercises also work to reduce your risk for chronic diseases, and lower blood pressure,” says the University of Rochester Medical Center. “They also help you maintain a healthy body weight. Through regular aerobic exercise like skiing and snowboarding, you lower your risk of developing conditions like diabetes and heart disease, having a stroke, and perhaps even getting cancer.”
5. Collagen Supplements
Martinez likes to incorporate collagen supplements into her healthy and beauty routine. “Collagen accounts for 30% of your body’s protein,” says the Cleveland Clinic. “It provides structure, support or strength to your skin, muscles, bones and connective tissues. Scientific research is lacking for most collagen supplements, but a well-balanced diet gives your body the raw ingredients it needs to help it make collagen naturally.”
