1. Outdoor Workouts
Palma loves to take her mat workouts outside to the park so she can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. “Exercising outdoors increases our exposure to sunlight, enhancing vitamin D production, which has been linked to improving mood, promoting bone health, boosting immune system function and reducing inflammation,” says Cedric X. Bryant, PhD, FACSM. “Being in nature boosts feelings of well-being and life satisfaction. In fact, simply being outside and breathing fresh air has been shown to reduce stress and enhance relaxation. Research shows that being in nature, also called forest bathing, reduces stress and enhances relaxation. Exercising, particularly outdoors, drives tremendous mental health benefits, ranging from reducing depression and anxiety to enhancing self-esteem and mood. Combine that with the physiological benefits of exercise, and you'll see greater levels of joy in your life.”
2. She Swims
Palma enjoys swimming in the ocean, especially when traveling to beautiful destinations like Cuba. "Every time I go for a swim I feel like the earth and my incredible swim colleagues have enabled me to have experienced something pretty amazing," says Dr Jenny Martin, a physician and clinical pharmacologist at the University of Newcastle. "You get a release of hormones that make you feel good, like the molecules that are in morphine drugs, and other feel-good hormones like serotonin, dopamine. After an ocean swim in winter, you sometimes get a temporary natural high when you get out … definitely a euphoric feeling."

Palma occasionally uses a medicine ball for exercise. Medicine balls allow you to add more strength to a variety of exercises, allowing you the option to up your game,” says Nick Parkinson, M.Ed., AT, ATC, TSAC-F. “Hold one in your hands while performing squats, lunges or core exercises, or throw one against a wall to develop the ability to better generate power.”

Palma really loves the ocean—when she’s not swimming, she’s paddle boarding. “Our modern day lives have become largely disconnected from nature, with concrete and vehicles physically separating us from the outdoors, and what we value being far removed from what our brains developed to value,” says paddle boarder and Dryrobe brand ambassador, Cal Major. “Stand-up paddle boarding can help counteract that. Gliding along the water, making little noise and travelling slowly allows for a peaceful immersion into the natural world around us.”
5. Jumping Rope
Palma jumps rope as part of her workout routine. “You can jump rope at a slow, steady pace if you want to use it as low-impact, steady-state cardio or you can increase the intensity with techniques like high knees or double-unders (when the rope passes under the feet twice per jump) if you want to use it for HIIT-style training,” says ISSA-certified personal trainer Mike Matthews. “Plus, if you’re pushed for time and looking for an effective full-body workout, jumping rope is an excellent solution.”
