Meteorologist Laura Tobin is enjoying the beautiful weather and sunshine on the island of Santorini, Greece. 1. Pre-Holiday Health Kick
Tobin prepped for her trip to Santorini by working on her fitness and diet. "In five weeks time I’m going to Santorini with my best friends for our delayed 40th birthday,” she said. “Her and I have been laughing because I don’t do much exercise, I don’t have much sleep, I eat loads of food, I eat loads of sweets, I drink loads of alcohol, so I’ve actually started exercising, I’ve stopped eating sweets. I feel sad I’m not having sweets but also when you see the results, I ran my best 5k the other day, now I understand why people say ‘oh exercise is amazing’."
2. She Loves Walking
Tobin walks as much as possible, not just for the health benefits for environmental reasons. “There are so many co-benefits,” she says. “The more you walk, the less you are using your car – that will save you money. The healthier you are going to be, which saves the NHS money. It lowers pollution, which means that when my daughter walks to school she is not breathing in the dirty air.”
3. No Waste At Home

Tobin cooks at home as much as possible, and uses all the leftovers. “We are much more conscious about planning our meals, and if we have leftover stuff we stick it in a Tupperware container and stick it in the freezer,” she says. “Every scrap of food we have goes in our compost.”
4. Cutting Back On Meat

Tobin tries to be mindful about her meat intake. “I eat much less meat than I used to,” she says. “I don’t eat red meat anymore, just chicken and fish. Reducing meat intake will save you money because vegetables are cheaper than meat, and it’s also better for your health.”
5. Environmental Activist

Tobin is passionate about protecting the environment. “I’ve been forecasting the weather for years, and the more I have been forecasting it, presenting it, seeing it, and reading it, I’ve just seen how much more often severe weather is happening,” she says. “It’s happening more often, closer to home, having more impacts, affecting more people.”
