Leah Messer has been on TV since she was young. She first appeared on the MTV docu-series, 16 & Pregnant. Messer then went on to star in the spinoffs Teen Mom 2 and the first season of Teen Mom Family Reunion. Messer is currently a cast member on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. She just posted a new video on Instagram. In it, she did a photoshoot in a sequined bathing suit top and skirt. She captioned the post, "It's always a great time with you all! She Sticks Up For Herself
After being body-shamed on social media, Messer hit back in a statement to Refinery29. "First and foremost, there is much more to women than our bodies," Messer said. "Yet many women seem to continually judge others, not by their character, but by their bodies. There are many more important issues going on in the world today than whether or not I had enough to eat for breakfast.
She Wants To Inspire Her Kids
Messer wants to be a good example to her children. She tells Refinery29 that they are the reason she released that statement. "Thankfully I am in a beautiful place in my life raising three wonderful, kind, loving and confident little girls. The last thing I would want for them is to feel that they, too, could be ridiculed for their bodies. So let's stop with the shaming, start supporting one another, and focus on what really matters."
She Swims
Messer spends a lot of time in the water. She likes to swim as a way of staying in shape. Messer posted this photo on Instagram of herself floating on her back in a lake. She captioned it, "Life." The Mayo Clinic reports, "Aquatic exercise is a low-impact activity that takes the pressure off your bones, joints and muscles. Water also offers natural resistance, which can help strengthen your muscles. Aquatic exercise can also have several health benefits, such as improved heart health, reduced stress, and improved muscular endurance and strength."
She Hikes
Messer spends a lot of time outside. She likes to go hiking as a way of staying in shape. Messer posts a lot of photos on Instagram of herself hiking. She shared these highlights of herself walking in her home state of West Virginia. Messer also shared these photos of herself after a hike in Runyon Canyon.
She Weight Trains
Messer likes to weight train as a way of staying in shape. In a clip from Teen Mom 2, Messer met up with a friend at the gym to work out. She did some squats with a barbell. Weight Training has a lot of benefits. Harvard Health reports, "A recent meta-analysis found that people who do muscle-strengthening workouts are less likely to die prematurely than those who don't, adding to previous evidence that strength training has long-term health benefits. The study found that just 30 to 60 minutes a week of strength training may be enough. Those who worked out for this duration had a 10% to 20% lower risk of dying during the study period from all causes, and from cancer and heart disease specifically, compared to those who did no strength training. The benefits plateaued after one hour, and decreased after two hours."
