Gonzalez is an avid swimmer. “Swimming has long been recognized for its cardiovascular benefits,” says Seena Mathew, Assistant Professor of Biology, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. “Because swimming involves all of the major muscle groups, the heart has to work hard, which increases blood flow throughout the body. This leads to the creation of new blood vessels, a process called angiogenesis. The greater blood flow can also lead to a large release of endorphins – hormones that act as a natural pain reducer throughout the body. "Vitamin C is good for immunity," says Maya Vadiveloo, assistant professor in the department of nutrition and food sciences at the University of Rhode Island. "It's an antioxidant so it can help with oxidative stress in the body. The primary benefit, in addition to being a really good source of vitamin C, is that (mangoes) are a decent source of vitamin A, folate and are pretty high in fiber, which is beneficial for colon cancer prevention, heart disease and weight control."

4. She’s a Singer

Singing and performing are creative endeavors very important to Berlingeri. “Singing at the Estadio Azteca was something I never in my life imagined doing, let alone daring,” she says. “I don't know how I did it, but I did it. It can be really helpful in reaching specific goals quicker. And it also can help educate you on your food choices when it comes to nutrition, ratios, hidden calories, overeating or under eating etc. honestly I’d recommend any beginner try it out just to get a good feel for how you’re fuelling your body!! I feel like when people think of ‘meal tracking’ it can be seen as something that seems restrictive or something only bodybuilders do.
