She Doesn't Get Discouraged
It is difficult to be an actress, as you never know when you'll get your next job. This can easily take a toll on someone's mental health. However, Pettis says that she tries to not let it get her down. She tells Composure Magazine, "It's very easy to get caught up in the 'What's next?' For an actor, it can be a lot of pressure to always have something going on. This business is a rollercoaster & it's easy to get discouraged when you're in between jobs. But you just have to stay positive and be proud of how much you've already accomplished so far!"
She Isn't Living In The Past
Pettis is a former child star, and she has had to deal with transitioning to starring in more mature roles. She says that she's had to deal with criticism from fans for her most recent projects. However, Pettis says that she's not going to live in the past anymore. Pettis tells Teen Vogue, "People always made jokes. It was like, 'You're my entire childhood.' And then, slowly as I've gotten older and done more mature roles, been a little sexier, people are like, 'Oh my god, you're ruining my childhood.' I'm like, you have to get with the progression. I'm the same age as you now. Right? Like, we were both eight and now we're 23."
She Manages Her Stress
Being an actress is very stressful. However, Pettis says that she is good at managing it, especially as she's gotten older. "I think as a kid, you just have no idea what's at stake, you have no idea the pressure that's on you," Pettis explains to Teen Vogue. "You really don't understand what's going on. So everything was just like a blind optimism. Now if I feel stressed, or feel a lot of pressure, feel like everything's weighing on me heavily, I try to get back into my inner child who always did it for the fun of everything, and just was ready to entertain and do what made her happy without thinking of what's at stake. That's when I feel most comfortable and can find that confidence again."
She Uses Anti-Humidity Spray
Pettis has incredible curly hair, and many people are clamoring for her secrets. She revealed some of them to GirlsLife.com, including how she deals with humidity. "Using an anti-humidity spray is key! Since my hair is naturally so curly, it always wants to resist being completely smoothed out all the way straight. Any amount of moisture makes it curl up, so anti-humidity spray is a lifesaver!"
She Keeps Her Hair Hydrated
Pettis has curly hair, which can be difficult to manage, and keep hydrated. However, she tells GirlsLife.com that she does a lot of things that keep her hair hydrated. "My hair is naturally spiral curly, but I have a few tricks to help keep them healthy! The secret is making sure they are conditioned & hydrated so they're not dry, and not going overboard with products that make them look oily or hard & crunchy! Applying the perfect amount of leave-in conditioner while your hair is wet keeps them from getting frizzy. Curly hair comes in all different textures, so it's important to find the right leave-in conditioner for yours. Sometimes I have a few curls that are droopy or frizzy, so occasionally I'll use a curling wand with a small rod that matches the size of my curls to spruce up the limp pieces."
