1. Prioritize Fitness
Malin exercises “three workouts during the week on average” while she is shooting, she told Good Housekeeping. “My fitness routine is fairly relaxed, but I definitely pick up the pace as soon as a film comes along, especially one that’s a bit more physical,” she added to Parade, revealing that she likes to mix up her routine. “I’ve been doing a lot of online workouts, and I love Obé Fitness. It’s an app that has everything from Pilates and yoga to cardio boxing and dance classes,” she said. “I like to change it up because some days I feel stronger and want to do weights. Other days, I feel like I need to stretch it out. We have a dog and live close to Griffith Park in Los Angeles, so I also go hiking a lot.”
2. Get Your Zen On
Malin is all about getting her zen on in various ways. “I try to take a moment for myself every day,” Malin revealed to Parade. “I took a course on Transcendental Meditation a while back, and I really enjoy that when I have time.” Nature also helps her connect. “Getting out in nature has been great for me, and exercise is always good for my brain. I can wake up feeling groggy and tired and not ready for the day, but as soon as I get some movement in, it shifts my whole perspective and capacity to deal with the day.” And, she is all about therapy. “When I need it, I definitely tap into a therapist. And sometimes, it’s just indulging in a glass of wine—that’s great for my mental health.”
3. Maintain a Mostly Plant-Based Diet

Malin has created her own version of the 80-20 diet. “My goal is to have 80 percent of my diet be vegetables and fresh fruit,” she told Parade. “Whenever I cook a meal, I go to the fridge and say, ‘What veg are we going to have today and what am I going to accompany the veg with?’ Then I’ll toss in some protein and good carbs, like sweet potatoes or quinoa.”
4. Indulge on Occasion
Malin maintains balance in her diet, indulging in food she loves when she is craving it. “With that said, if there’s a cheese platter in front of me, I’m eating all of it. It doesn’t matter if I’m going to get a stomach ache. Same with Nutella. I’ll just spoon it out like it’s ice cream. I also love giving myself treats, like chocolate, as rewards when I work out. Then, if you didn’t do the workout, you can say, ‘I don’t really deserve chocolate.’ It really works for me—small rewards along the way,” she told Parade.
5. Exercise in the Morning

Malin ensures she gets her sweat on by hitting the gym when she wakes up. “I know if I get up and do a little workout, I’m going to have more energy; I’m going to be more present for him. I also feel better after a workout and eating well and that in itself becomes an inspiration. I know we all say we don’t have the time. But there’s always time to be carved out in our day. We just have to find it and plan it. For me, the trick is getting it in first thing in the morning,” she told Parade.
6. Drink Nutrients

Malin fuels up with healthy drinks. She told Good Housekeeping that she often opts for a liquid breakfast of a green smoothie. “My go-to healthy drink is: Coconut water or Kombucha. Good probiotics. Feels good. Tastes good, too,” she added to Stylecaster.
