She Maintains Balance
Minka's approach to health is all about balance. "I just enjoy my life and I enjoy food and I enjoy a glass of wine but I also try and balance it out and take breaks once in a while," she told People. She also listens to her body. "I just pay attention to how I'm feeling and try to keep that in check," she added. "I know if I'm feeling sluggish." "Spending too much time planning, problem-solving, daydreaming, or thinking negative or random thoughts can be draining. It can also make you more likely to experience stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression. Practicing mindfulness exercises can help you direct your attention away from this kind of thinking and engage with the world around you," says the Mayo Clinic.
She Loves Fast Food
Minka, who graduated from culinary school, allows herself to cheat. She usually opts for fast food, like a McDonald's Big Mac or Taco Bell. "I love fast food, it's really bad," she told People. "But that's the truth. I'm not perfect."
She Hydrates
Minka prioritizes hydration, especially on her fast food days. "I just try and make sure I'm drinking enough water," she told People. "I really subscribe to the adage of today's lack of energy is due to yesterday's lack of water. I really notice a difference when I'm drinking enough water, how much energy I have the next day. So I feel like if I do have a Big Mac, if I just drink so much water it's just going to wash it all out."
She Avoids Eating Starches with Protein
Minka avoids eating starches — like bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta — with protein. "It's so hard on your digestion, and your body works overtime, which is why I'm so tired after a huge Thanksgiving dinner," she told Delish. "I just feel better."
She Dances
Minka loves taking hourlong dance classes at her friend Robin Antin's studio in West Hollywood. "You don't have to be particularly coordinated. It's called a Grooves class, and you're just sort of mimicking the teacher," she explains. "You're just sort of freestyling with them for an hour, and that's an amazing way to do cardio," she told Delish.
She Takes VersaClimber Classe
She also takes Jason Walsh's 30-minute VersaClimber classes. "You go in there and the music is loud, and the lights are down, and you work really hard for 30 minutes," she told Delish. "You sweat your butt off and you feel great afterwards."
She Doesn't Weigh Herself
Minka doesn't weigh herself. "I haven't gotten on a scale in a long time. If I'm working out hard enough, I'm proud of myself," she told Self
She Takes Care of Her Health to Live
Minka, whose mother died of cancer, prioritizes her health so she can live as long as possible. "My mom wasn't the healthiest and when I lost her, that really inspired me to take care of myself and eat well and exercise," she told Cosmopolitan. "I absolutely want grandchildren and I want to be around for them."
