She Follows a Pescatarian Diet
Lustre follows a pescatarian diet with plenty of traditional Filipino foods. "Now I'm focusing on health and fitness. I'm eating more healthy food. Hopefully I'm successful with becoming full-on pescatarian and vegetarian," Lustre says. "There's just a lot of options like [vegetables], lutong bahay (home-cooked meals) and a friend who would always cook and she likes to make kangkong, itlog na pula with kamatis (salted egg with tomato) [and] sinigang na bangus."
"The pescatarian diet is widely accepted as being a nutritious choice due to the known benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle, coupled with high-protein, lean white fish and omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish including salmon, mackerel, herring and fresh tuna," says registered dietician Emer Delaney. "This style of eating has shown a reduced risk of developing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, all of which are risk factors for heart disease. In addition, a 2016 study showed that omega-3 fatty acids were associated with a lower risk of fatal heart attacks."
She Does Cardio Every Day
"Nadine stays lean by doing steady state cardio daily—if not daily, as often as she can," Lustre's personal trainer Lahaina Mae Mondonedo tells Metro Style. "Steady state is a form of low-intensity, fat-burning cardio, such as walking and biking. And, she stays toned by doing consistent weight training to help her maintain and build muscle. Then this is all supported by a customized diet of four nourishing meals a day that helps fuel her for her hectic, active days. The specifics of these three program components are personalized to her."
She Eats a Clean Diet
"We definitely had a renewed focus on Nadine's nutrition this past year," Mondonedo says. "Since the working out wasn't as consistent as the year prior, her diet became even more important for her preparation. We eliminated any excess calories, and she ate a very clean diet at the precise macronutrients calculated for her lifestyle. I always tell everyone I train, that you can't out train a bad diet, which means, working out is not enough. Eating a clean, well-balanced diet is essential to any effective health program. It's important to note that every body is different, so the specifics for each of the components I mentioned differs from person to person."
She Loves Oranges
Lustre is a huge fan of oranges and other citrus fruits, and credits vitamin C with giving her glowing skin. "It's well known that citrus, and notably oranges, are rich in vitamin C, which has valuable antioxidant properties and helps protect cells from damage," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "They're also high in carotenoids including beta-cryptoxanthin, which the body converts to vitamin A, and the blood orange provides lycopene."
She Loves to Surf
Lustre enjoys taking a surfboard out on the ocean for both physical and mental wellness. "The sound and vision of the ocean lift our mood," says consultant psychiatrist Dr. Arghya Sarkhel. "The touch of sand and the smell of a seaside breeze leads to relaxation. On a biological level, this audio-visual stimulus incites our parasympathetic nervous system—that activates 'rest and digest', as opposed to 'fight or flight'."
