She Struggled with An Eating Disorder

Madelyn has revealed that she suffered from an eating disorder as a teen. "I think I was around 16 when I started working out a lot. I would wake up every morning at 5 a.m. and I would work out for 30 minutes. It was super rigorous cardio every day," she explained in a 2020 Body Scan video for Women's Health. She drastically cut calories, sometimes just eating six almonds for breakfast as to not "counteract the cardio" she was doing. "It turned into not feeding myself protein and not feeding my body what it needed when I was working out so much. "I worked out multiple times during the day. All I knew was I wasn't achieving a particular body image, and so I was angry. I was harming myself and starving myself in the process of trying to achieve that."

Madelyn's mother was a  "wonderful help" in terms of her recovery. "She would stand there in the mirror with me and we would list out things that I liked about my body," she explained. "After that repetition those things became solidified in my mind. I like my curves, I like my hips, and after a while I started to love my body. I became so much happier."

She Is Active Outdoors

Madelyn loves outdoor activities. "I want to climb a mountain or go backpacking somewhere. That'd be really cool," she told Buzzfeed. However, in general, hiking isn't one of her favorite things to do. "Like, I hate going on hikes, but I feel like I should climb a mountain at least once in my life. Just to say I did it. Yeah. I saw the view, I saw some clouds. And yeah, it's good, I did it. No more hiking ever again. Just cross it off."

Horses Are Her Therapy

Madelyn's first job in Los Angeles was at a horse barn. "Every morning I would get up at like 6am and I would drive to the barn and I would mop the stalls, feed them, and give them their supplements," she told Vogue. "When I'm riding I feel very centered but also very alert because I am trying to figure out what the horse is telling me what is around us, if there is anything that might spook them. Just learning how to communicate with them, and if you stay calm they stay calm. So it's kind of a lesson in learning how to center yourself first. It's cathartic. There's a reason why people go and do horse therapy. It's because it's wonderful."

"I think the thing I've learned the most about my anxiety and dealing with my emotions and learning how to conquer the things, self sabotage, and imposter syndrome is just learning how to give in and let things happen and if it doesn't go as planned that's okay," she told Vogue. "And give yourself the permission to tell your anxiety to" hush.
