Manterola makes her own fresh celery juice, which she drinks on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. "There is nothing like waking up, doing a good meditation, thanking life for being alive, for breathing, doing a little exercise or a little yoga, and something that I had not told you is that I have been taking celery juice," she says. "Celery has wonderful benefits.”
2. Vegan Diet

Manterola gradually switched over to a vegan diet after making healthy changes, and finds it works for her so long as she gets the right nutrients. “As soon as I started eating healthy, the natural progression for me was to become vegan,” she says. “I researched, and concluded that veganism was right for me. I practice veganism correctly, often checking my vitamin and protein levels. Constancy comes when you are healthy inwardly and outwardly.”

Manterola opted for regular yoga sessions to help get her back into shape after welcoming her twins in 2013. "I believe that when you are so blessed with such beautiful gifts from God, it makes you want to look beautiful, take care of yourself,” she said at the time. “I do my yoga, which for me is wonderful… In this second pregnancy with the twins, it took me a little bit of work to recover, but I started healthy, doing a lot of exercise and here we are back.”
4. Meditation Sessions

Manterola is a proponent of regular meditation sessions, which research shows has immense health benefits. One study shows 8 weeks of mindfulness meditation can alter the brain’s gray matter. "Although the practice of meditation is associated with a sense of peacefulness and physical relaxation, practitioners have long claimed that meditation also provides cognitive and psychological benefits that persist throughout the day," says Sara Lazar, PhD, of the MGH Psychiatric Neuroimaging Research Program.
5. Weight Training
Manterola uses weights and dumbbells at the gym as part of her workout routine. "Just doing aerobic exercise is not adequate," says Dr. Robert Schreiber, physician-in-chief at Hebrew SeniorLife and an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School. "Unless you are doing strength training, you will become weaker and less functional."
