Pia tries to cook her own food when she has time. “I have a busy schedule and am constantly traveling so when I do have the time to grocery shop or prepare a meal, I make it a priority,” she told People “However, I love sushi so I find myself eating out often for that!”

2. She Consumes a Lot of Protein

Pia packs “lots of protein” into her meals. “I like to enjoy foods that keep my energy levels stable,” Wurtzbach told People. “Otherwise I’d likely crash at some point during the day.” “Muscles love protein, especially complete proteins like whey,” says the Cleveland Clinic. “Whey protein contains branched-chain amino acids, a specific type of amino acid that helps with muscle building,” registered dietitian Maxine Smith, RD, LD tells the Clinic.

3. She Hydrates

Pia prioritizes hydration. She told People that she drinks at least 8 glasses of water per day. “You've probably heard the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day. That's easy to remember, and it's a reasonable goal,” says the Mayo Clinic. “Most healthy people can stay hydrated by drinking water and other fluids whenever they feel thirsty. For some people, fewer than eight glasses a day might be enough. But other people might need more.”

4. This Is What She Eats in a Day

Pia revealed her 1,758 calorie per day diet to People. For breakfast, Pia starts with a cup of coffee with a splash of cream. She then has 1½ cups of Greek yogurt with 3 diced strawberries, a handful of blueberries, a tbsp. of honey and mangoes. For lunch, she will eat a grilled-chicken Caesar salad – “light on the croutons” – with diced cherry tomatoes, 2 tbsp. of dressing and ⅓ cup of low-fat Parmesan cheese. In the afternoon she will snack on two handfuls of roasted almonds (no salt) and dried mango with a side of cottage cheese. Her dinner is usually oven-roasted salmon (with ½ tbsp. of olive oil to coat fillet), 1 cup of spinach topped with feta, 1 cup of steamed broccoli with fresh lemon juice, olive oil and garlic, and 2 red bliss potatoes, sliced, with olive oil and fresh rosemary. Finally, dessert, 2 small scoops of low-fat chocolate caramel ice cream.

5. These Are Her Three Exercise Moves

According to Pia’s personal trainer, Mark Banta of Anytime Fitness, his beauty queen client “swears” by three moves. "The plank is one of the best exercises for a flat, toned stomach because it works all the muscles in your core, including the rectus abdominus or the 'six-pack muscles' you can see. We made sure to do this because we're really preparing for the swimsuit competition,” he told Candy. Also, for her arms, a tricep pulldown and squats and lunges for her legs.

Banta also makes sure Pia consumes carbs before her workouts and proteins after. "When it comes to gearing up before your workout, carbs should be number one on your list. Always take them an hour before you start exercising," he told Candy. "After workout, we always consume a post workout drink (protein shake), boiled eggs, and chicken breast. Nabilla, who spends a lot of time at the beach, loves paddleboarding. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) agrees that paddle boarding is great for the core and also a great form of cardio. The water sport can burn an average of 385 calories for a 140 pound male and 436 for a female the same size, per a study conducted by Arizona State University.

5. She Takes Baths

Who would have thought that they would say I have high cholesterol,” Pia wrote recently. “With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels. Eventually, these deposits grow, making it difficult for enough blood to flow through your arteries. Sometimes, those deposits can break suddenly and form a clot that causes a heart attack or stroke,” says the Mayo Clinic. “The same heart-healthy lifestyle changes that can lower your cholesterol can help prevent you from having high cholesterol in the first place.” For example, “Eat a low-salt diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables and whole grains.”

2. Consistency is Key, She Says

“I learned that consistency is key,” Pia said about fitness. “Instead of beating yourself up for ‘failing,’ show yourself some compassion. Revisit your goal. Think about those kids or that amazing vacation you want to take. Review your meal plans and take note of where and why you stumbled. Stay positive and get back on track. You've got this,” says the Mayo Clinic.

3. She Has Had Anxiety

"I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and major depression. All of the pain and suffering I endured all my life caught up to me and manifested itself in a fully self-destructive way," she said in her TED Talk. "You'd think that the crown and the title would be the bandage to all of that. You'd think that it would be enough to make sense of all the pain and the rejection, but it didn't," she added. "I want to paint a picture, not of a perfect beauty queen, but of a real person with real life experiences. There's no shame in admitting that you aren't perfect and that you need help," she said.

She Keeps Her Skincare Simple

Culpo shared her skincare routines with Byrdie. She says that she keeps her morning and night routine simple. “I am always trying out new products, so what I gravitate toward is often changing. At night, I usually use an oil and a serum. Right now, I love the Clarins Double Serum. In the morning, I use a Vitamin C serum and an SPF, and, typically, I just rinse my skin with warm water instead of using a cleanser. It is something I swear by—it allows for the oils on my skin from sleeping to absorb naturally.”

Culpo shared some of her favorite skincare products with Byrdie. She says that she uses ones that have vitamins in them. “I have noticed a huge difference in my skin with vitamin C and E. I love the Good Janes H2OMyGod Moisturizer—it's sort of an all-in-one moisturizer that has vitamin C and collagen peptides. As for vitamin E, I actually just purchase the oil from the drugstore. It is super cheap and great to put on any red marks I may get from an occasional breakout. The healing process is so much quicker when I am using Vitamin E oil.”

Culpo makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of the snacks she packs with her with Travel + Leisure. "I love the Kind bars. I love any sort of nuts, to be honest with you. Then, I stopped eating after 7 p.m. Finally, I started really watching my portions so I was eating fewer calories every day. And water—lots and lots of water.”

Abigail is a fan of Pilates. “Group workout classes are so big right now, but I always get nervous around other people in settings like that. I have to go at my own pace without a bunch of distractions so, for me, Pilates with a one-on-one instructor works best. It’s not cheap, but then you also aren’t tempted to skip,” she said She added to Men’s Fitness via Muscle & Fitness that the workout “keeps you long and lean” — and the Mayo Clinic agrees. “I love green juices and smoothies. Sometimes I’ll put some protein powder in the morning—I feel like the mix of vegetables, and vitamins and stuff that’s in them, really gives me a lot of energy in the morning. I love BBQ food—my ultimate cheat is a pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese from this great place in LA,” she told Men’s Fitness.

Ratchford also lifts weights. “Initially, I made the mistake that a lot of girls do and I was only doing cardio. I just really didn’t see too much change in my body. I’ve been listening to my girlfriends who are in great shape and they say you have to do weight training, you have to go in and do squats. That’s my new thing—I’ve been doing some resistance training, circuit training,” she told Men’s Fitness.
