Barker enjoys plenty of walking and running as part of her workout regimen. "Many dedicated long-term runners do not run because they want to live longer," says cardiologist Dr. Aaron Baggish. "They run because it makes them feel better on a daily basis. There is a mood elevating, quality-of-life benefit that comes from being a regular exerciser."

Calisthenics

Barker does regular calisthenics sessions. "My workouts have changed recently because I've started getting into this thing called calisthenics, which is almost like street gymnastics, but it's all lifting your own bodyweight," she says. "It's my new passion, I'm genuinely obsessed with it and it requires a lot of strength."

Oatmeal For Breakfast

Barker usually enjoys the same thing for breakfast. "I have porridge most mornings and I'm obsessed with peanut butter, I'm constantly adding it to things," she says. "Another thing I like to eat in the morning is fruit, crumpets and peanut butter." Peanut butter can be a good source of protein—just watch the added sugar!

Protein Supplements

Barker takes protein supplements to help her build muscle. "Protein plus fiber keeps us full longer, which means you don't feel the urge to eat as often," says Nancy Waldeck, chef and dietitian at Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Health. "This helps keep weight down while fueling our cells with the right nutrients they need."

Barker makes time for self-care every day. "For me, it's about having time where I can completely switch off," she says. "I love having a bath, I honestly have a bath most days. I love going for dog walks with my mum, that's something I pretty much do every day. I also love listening to podcasts."
