She Wears Sunscreen Every Day
Malik is passionate about sunscreen, and reminds people to wear it even on cloudy days. "If I had to choose one Skincare product that I can't live without, it'd be sunscreen! 🌞," she says. "Can't emphasize enough on how important it is, so here are 5 Reasons for you to apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days because up to 80% of sun rays can pass through the clouds! 🌦."
Lemon Water
"I start my day with a glass of lemon water," Malik says. "I think the vitamin C boost is really important." Experts agree—drinking lemon water is a great way to start the day. "For centuries, lemons were highly regarded for treating scurvy, a now rare condition that can develop through a lack of vitamin C (ascorbic acid)," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin. "Vitamin C is often claimed to support the immune system however, studies remain inconclusive. One study found that although vitamin C did not prevent otherwise healthy people from catching the common cold, it may shorten the duration of symptoms, and it may halve the common cold risk in people exposed to short periods of extreme physical stress (e.g. marathon runners)."
Nuts and Black Coffee
Malik likes to fuel up before her workout with black coffee and a bowl of almonds, pistachios, walnuts, cranberries, and flax, sesame, watermelon, and pumpkin seeds. "Overall, seeds have a range of health benefits, therefore it is important to include a variety of them in your diet on a regular basis," says registered dietician Kelly McCabe. "One of the easiest ways to do this is to make your own nut and seed mix. Store this in a Kilner jar in the fridge and snack on a handful each day."
Mushroom and Cheese Omelette
Breakfast for Malik usually consists of her famous mushroom and cheese omelet. "Mushroom and cheese omelet is my favorite thing," she says. "I feel like I cook it really well because whoever has eaten my mushroom and cheese omelet has fallen in love with it. My mom copied the recipe and now I see her making it every other day."
Bowl of Fruit
Malik enjoys a big bowl of fruit for her mid-day snack, usually consisting of oranges, pomegranates, and apples. "The natural antioxidants in fruits and vegetables help keep your body working at its best, so consuming a diet that meets your daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables is one of the best ways to give your body a strong defense against disease," says Karen Ensle Ed.D., RDN, FAND, CFCS. "Fruits and vegetables are protective to health as they're helpful at reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and some cancers. They're also low in calories, which helps prevent obesity … a significant risk factor for type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease."
Avocado Toast
Malik loves to snack on avocado toast, calling it her "favorite thing." It's a good choice of snack, as avocados have many health benefits. "Avocados are a rich source of protective vitamin E, as well as carotenes including lutein and zeaxanthin, which are thought to help keep the eyes healthy," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin.
