1. Be Patient but Consistent

Sanya believes that getting into shape takes exercise, but also patience and consistency."Nothing can happen overnight," she said during 2018 Instagram live per Deccan Chronicle. "Only with regular and consistent training, can your body change."

2. Do Strength Training

Malhotra’s workouts are mostly strength training based, consisting of weight lifting and other muscle building exercises. In these two reels on Instagram she does deadlifts with a barbell. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are many benefits of this type of workout. "Strength training can help you tone your muscles and improve your appearance. With a regular strength training program, you can reduce your body fat, increase bone strength, increase your lean muscle mass and burn calories more efficiently."

3. Dance

Malhotra also stays in shape with the help of dancing. Her Instagram and TikTok feeds are filled with photos of the star cutting a rug by herself and with friends. Not only is dancing fun, but it burns calories and relieves stress. "Dancing is a recreational activity which is pursued dominantly to improve one's mood and reflects the stress-reducing capability of the activity," says a PLOS One study.

4. Maintain a “Healthy Balanced Diet”

Malhotra believes in eating a balanced diet. "To lead a healthy lifestyle, you need to have a healthy balanced diet, exercise and rest. I am a fan of desi food and prefer dal chawal with ghee, dahi chawal, and khichdi,” said in the above Instagram Live session.

5. Don’t Put Too Much Pressure on Yourself

In an interview with PTI, Sanya revealed that she suffered from severe anxiety early in her career. "Earlier, I was too harsh on myself as an actor. I would get mad at myself for making mistakes, which was definitely not helping me with anything. I was harsh on myself because maybe I was still trying to learn about so many things, about the industry, the job. Even a small mistake used to tick me off. I was trying to be perfect in everything." Now she avoids putting that pressure on herself.

6. Try a Vegetarian Diet

“I wanted to become a vegetarian for a very long time. This year, it all happened very organically. Also, because of the second lockdown amid the pandemic,” Malhotra told the Hindustan Times. "Since I was alone in Mumbai, it gave me a lot of time to experiment in the kitchen and make good vegetarian and vegan stuff for myself to eat. During all that, I found a lot of substitutes for meat and eggs and dairy that I was used to eating. In fact, now, I’m actually enjoying eating all the substitutes,” she added. “I can see a lot of difference (after the decision). I have a lot of energy during the day, and just feel lighter, as opposed to the times when I used to eat non-vegetarian food.”

Sanya Malhotra, the Bollywood star of Dangal and Badhaai Ho, just posted an incredible video online, of her swimming underwater in a bathing suit, in slow motion and artsy black and white. The music in the background is "To Build a Home,” a song by English electronic music group The Cinematic Orchestra, featuring Patrick Watson. “A home for you, for me,” Sanya captioned it. 1. She Does Squats

Sanya strength trains, with a focus on her glutes. Here’s how to do a key exercise, a Dumbbell Squat:

  1. Stand up straight while holding a dumbbell in each hand (palms facing the side of your legs).
  2. Position your legs using a shoulder-width medium stance with the toes slightly pointed out. Keep your head up at all times (looking down will throw you off balance), and also maintain a straight back. This will be your starting position.
  3. Begin to slowly lower your torso by bending the knees and sitting back with the weight in your heels so that you maintain a straight posture with the head up. Continue down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. If you performed the exercise correctly, the front of the knees should make an imaginary perpendicular straight line with the toes. If your knees are past your toes, you’re placing undue stress on the knee; concentrate on sitting back and keeping the weight in your heels.
  4. Begin to raise your torso as you exhale by pushing the floor mainly with the heel of your foot as you straighten the legs again and go back to the starting position.
  5. Repeat for 10 repetitions.

2. She Lifts Weights

Entertainment India SeptemberProdip Guha/Getty Images

Want to lift weights like Sanya? Here are a few guidelines, based on your current fitness level:

  • If you’re not familiar with weights, start slow, and use much lighter weights than you think you’ll need.
  • If you’re used to lifting weights, start slow, and use much lighter weights than you think you’ll need.
  • If you are the reigning Mr. Olympia and your biceps are larger than your head, start slow, and use much lighter weights than you think you’ll need.

3. She Dances

2019 Sundance Film Festival - "Photograph" PremiereShutterstock

Sanya dances, and a dance class is great for your heart. “Zumba fitness could be considered an effective type of physical activity able to improve aerobic capacity,” says one study of the popular dance class. “Zumba provided significant positive changes in maximal aerobic fitness (+3.6%), self-perception of physical strength (+16.3%) and muscular development (+18.6%), greater autonomy (+8.0%), and purpose in life (+4.4%),” reports another study.

4. She Works Her Core

Mumbai Celebrity SightingsProdip Guha/Hindustan Times via Getty Images

Sanya has a strong core, due to all her strength training. And she doesn’t need to do crunches to get it. Because the abdominals are part of a complex network of muscles that stabilize the midtorso against any and all forces that might compromise the spine (which, as we know, is bad), any time we do an exercise that requires the body to self-stabilize, the abs are brought into play. And since Sanya’s workouts focuses on the big muscle groups of the body, she’s burning the maximum number of calories and building the maximum amount of muscle.

5. This is Her Approach to Wellness

Bollywood actress Sanya Malhotra poses for a photo toAshish Vaishnav/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images

“To lead a healthy lifestyle, you need to have a healthy balanced diet, exercise and rest. I am a fan of desi food and prefer dal chawal with ghee, dahi chawal, and khichdi. So, my fitness mantra is to train hard, eat clean and sleep at least eight hours a day. Nothing can happen overnight. Only with regular and consistent training, can your body change.”

Water Skiing

Sydney has been water skiing since she was a toddler. “The moment I could walk, my mom put me on what’s called a U-board to learn how to ski,” she told Women’s Health. “I remember that whenever we would go by the docks of my grandma’s or my cousin’s house, I’d wave. I felt so cool because I could take off one hand. That’s my earliest memory of skiing, but I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember. It’s my favorite.” How does it help her achieve her amazing body? “It’s a lot of upper body strength, it’s balance, it’s core, it’s legs—you get tired really fast,” she says. “I see such a change in my body after an entire summer of [skiing]. My arms are stronger, more sculpted. My abs are rock solid. But I never look at it as a workout because it is so much fun,” she said.

Morning Workouts

Sydney mixes up her exercise routine, but likes to get workouts over with early in the day. “I like to work out in the morning, so I’ll either go for a run or I’ll go to Solidcore,” says Sydney. The high-intensity, low-impact Pilates-inspired workout “makes me feel so strong, but also elongated,” Sydney said about her sweat sessions. “I feel so good afterwards.”

Self-Care

Sydney engages in self-care activities. “I love to paint, and I love to read,” she said. “Those are the activities that are just for me.” One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years than those who weren't readers or who read periodicals.

She Walks and Hikes

One of the ways she treats her anxiety is by spending time outdoors with her dog, Tank. She takes him on walks or hikes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Mariana does reformer Pilates. “POV: Stepping into the prettiest torture chamber,” she wrote across a video of herself at the studio. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Mariana recently got an aesthetic body treatment, Emsculpt NEO. “I’ve heard all the rage about the benefits to spot reducing fat & toning muscle so I had to give it a try to target those pesky lower abs. It was a 10/10 & a great addition to my workout routine,” she wrote.
